  • WXHC interviews Wendy Dio about posthumous Ronnie memoir (audio)

    WXHC recently had the opportunity to speak with Wendy Dio, widow of the late Cortland-based legend, Ronnie James Dio.
    She discussed Rainbow in the Dark: The Autobiography, which Ronnie started himself before losing a battle to stomach cancer in 2010.
    "Ronnie had a bunch of handwritten notes and even a few full chapters about things he wanted to talk about," Wendy told WXHC's Vinnie Bellardini. "We used those and added some other things in to pull it all together the way he would have wanted."
    Wendy and Ronnie's friend -- music writer Mick Hall -- finished up the memoir, which just released on July 27, 2021.
    Amazon described the book as:

  • Norm Stitzel previews long-term plans to rebuild local Vets memorial (audio)

    On today’s Meet Cortland County segment:

    Norm Stitzel, commandant and chaplain for the local Veteran Search and Rescue (VETSAR) ministry.

    He discussed the ongoing effort to restore the memorial for local Vietnam Vets inside Courthouse Park in the city of Cortland.

    Today, a special benefit concert will run from Noon to 5 pm in the park — rain or shine.

    All proceeds will go towards the project.

    Stitzel also previewed long-term plans to further build onto the other war memorials at the park.

  • Mayor McCabe previews 40th annual ‘Holiday in Homer’ (audio)

    On today’s Happening in Homer segment:

    Mayor Darren “Hal” McCabe previewed this weekend’s return of the annual ‘Holiday in Homer‘ festival.

    This year marks the 40th anniversary of the event, which couldn’t be held in 2020 due to the pandemic.

    **Holiday in Homer is rescheduled from Sat., July 17 to Sun., July 18 from 9 am to 4 pm.

    The mayor also discussed the ongoing beautification of NYS Route 281.

    Officials recently installed American flags on the light posts along the village portion of the highway.

    Additionally, McCabe brought up an issue with trash pickup yesterday that was caused by a Syracuse Haulers truck breaking down.

    “They never got it fixed and I think they only got to around half the normal route,” he said. “The rest should be picked up by this afternoon, but if not let us know so we can make a list of addresses.”

    Anyone who didn’t get their trash picked up as scheduled should call the village office Friday (July 16) morning at 607—749—3322.
