Den tyske filosofen och prästen Meister Eckhart såg detachment som den högsta formen av frihet. Det handlar inte om att vara likgiltig inför livet, utan om att kunna leva fullt ut utan att styras av det man klamrar sig fast vid — resultat, bekräftelse, identitet eller känslor.
