Friends in Christ, during this joyful season of Easter, we continue to celebrate those brothers and sisters who entered or were fully welcomed into the Church at the Easter Vigil. Please reach out to those in your Parish to celebrate with them, offer your continued prayers for them, or invite them to parish events. 

Accompanying one another in the faith is essential, the readings will remind us today.

In our busy world when it is easy to feel disconnected and alone, being with one another is a powerful way to be a vessel through which Christ proclaims his promise to never leave us. By sitting with one another in times of grief, listening to the questions of a friend who is struggling, or rejoicing with a friend in response to good news, we accompany each other through life’s ups and downs. In whatever ways possible, we are called to accompany another in their journey of faith, we do so with the promise that Christ is doing the same for us. 

 Please remember in your prayers our brother Henry who is grieving the loss of father.

This Sunday the readings invite us to reflect on our identity as a community of believers and the hope we have in Christ 
In the first reading from the Acts of the Apostles we see the early church facing challenges as they grew. Appointing Deacons was response to ensure no one was neglected
The 2nd reading from the letter of St Peter reminds that each of us with our gifts and talents are living stones vital in building a vibrant church 
In the gospel from the Evangelist John, Jesus says He is the way, the truth and the Life and that He is going to His Father’s house to prepare a place for us. 
Friends in Christ, at the heart of our faith is not only prayer and worship of God but also diaconia - service of our brothers and sisters. We pray for the grace to always offer ourselves like the deacons on serving those around us wherever we find ourselves. Amen

Friends in Christ, on this 4th Sunday of Easter, Good Shepherd Sunday, also the world day of prayer for vocations we welcome you and ask you to join us to thank God for the many Good shepherds we have in our Church. To pray for more vocations and servants in His vineyard. 

Friends, the readings today talk about Christ as The Good Shepherd, calling us to hear His voice, to be His Voice and use our voice for the glory of His name. 

We need to RECOGNISE His Voice - that guides us along the right path

We need to BE His Voice - The voice of the voiceless 

Like Peter let us lift up our voices, for the glory of His Holy name.

When people cast doubt on what you do, are suspicious of you, or even think negatively about you, how do react towards them? In the gospel today, we hear Thomas emphatically state that ‘Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.’ Poor Thomas, he must have felt miserable, depressed, downcast when Jesus appeared to the other disciples in his absence and waited a week before showing up again. In his negativity and doubt, Christ would have been justified in giving him a talking-to or telling off. But No. He chose instead to present the facts: "...put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.’  Christ responded with mercy – inviting him into an encounter in a way that will draw him into deeper faith. And Christ also comes to you and I again and again and again, mercifully inviting us into a relationship with him regardless of what we demand or how often we fall away. We pray that through His grace we may be like Thomas respond ‘My Lord and my God!’. May we be like Christ in our interactions with one another.

Welcome to the celebration of the greatest and most important feast in the Church. - “Easter” which literally means “the feast of fresh flowers.” We celebrate it with pride and jubilation because it marks the birthday of our eternal hope.

Easter, the feast of the Resurrection, gives us the joyful message that we are a “Resurrection people.” It is a feast which gives us hope and encouragement in this world of pain, sorrows, fears, and tears. Easter reminds us that life is worth living. No longer are we supposed to lie buried in the tomb of our sins, our evil habits, and our dangerous addictions.  Today we celebrate the Good News that no tombs can hold us down any longer – not the tombs of despair, discouragement, doubt, unforgiveness, anxiety,  or death itself.  Instead, we are expected to live a joyful and peaceful life, constantly experiencing the real Presence of the Risen Lord in all the events of our lives.  “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad” (Ps 118:24).
