In the Old Testament, the Jews used a "scapegoat" on which the preist symbolically placed all of the sins of the people, and sacrificed it. This was a yearly practice for many, many years, and was ultimately fulfilled in the sacrifice of Jesus, the Lamb of God, for our sins. Pentecost was and is a day that Jews celebrate as the day when God gave scripture (the Torah) to Israel. Christians also celebrate Pentecost as the day when God poured out His Holy Spirit to the Apostles, empowering them to spread the gospel and the Holy Spirit throughout the world.[Click below to download the sermon slides.]

The feast of firstfruits was a yearly celebration where God's people were reminded of his provision. The feast also pointed to Jesus' resurrection 1500 years later.
