In this episode, we discuss the recent deal between House Republicans on a stopgap government funding bill. We also talk about the history of government shutdowns, the reasons behind them, and some possible solutions.
On September 19, 2023, House Republican groups reached a deal on a stopgap government funding bill that will keep the government running through December 16. The deal includes $12.3 billion in emergency aid for Ukraine, as well as funding for disaster relief and border security.
The deal is a victory for House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who has been trying to unify his party around a spending bill. It is also a sign that Republicans are taking the threat of a government shutdown seriously.
