Today in Romans 16 as we come to a close of Paul’s letter to the Roman Christians I want to recognize Paul’s final comments to his friends, and how they can relate to us as being friends on the mission. His listing of friends says a lot about how he and we need one another as we serve the Lord and as we are all called to relationships. We are called to influence the world, and you can’t do that by yourself. So, let’s take a look at a few of Paul’s friends.

Today Billy will be taking us through Romans 14:1-15:13. We will be looking at what Paul has to say about Relinquishing our Liberties.

Last week in Romans 13 we talked about loving others and how this is one of our highest callings. Loving God and loving people. Above everything else these two things are the most important we should do, and as we see in these last few verses of Chapter 13 time is of the essence. Don’t wait to love and be like Jesus, but do it today! Clothe yourself with Jesus and be salt and light, which is also why we must cast off anything that can be deeds of darkness and not make any provision for our flesh.

How many of you have debt? Most people have debt and this can become a tremendous burden, that requires us to pay them back. The Bible talks about being enslaved to debt, and in our reading today of Romans 13 God tells us we should owe no one anything, except one thing.

Today’s passage in Romans 13 is important for us all to know. The subject of submission to authorities is one we all have to understand and do. Especially in a world of increasing lawlessness, we still have to obey and submit to laws and authorities, so that it may go well with us.

Today we are going to begin with the first couple of verses in Romans 12 where Paul begins to address a battle we all face in our thought life and how we can win this battle. What I want to talk and think about today is how our thoughts essentially lead us in all sorts of directions. Now I believe most of us as Christians want to think and be led to be more like Jesus. We want to be spirit-led, then there is this battle happening that wars against that. So, Paul wants to acknowledge this and give his readers a few important reminders on how to have victory in our minds, because almost all our sin issues begin with a thought, and we either win in this battle or lose and give into temptations.

Have you ever looked back on a decision you made and thought, “If I had known then what I know now…?” I’ve made some bad decisions in my life. Hopefully, as I get older I become wiser and make better decisions, or at least that’s what we hope will do.. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we had access to more knowledge, more wisdom? We do! The apostle Paul wrote a doxology or praise hymn talking about the wisdom and knowledge of God that we are going to read in a second.

Today we are reading Romans 11. I want to thank Andrew for doing a great job of preaching last week in chapter 10. Much of chapter 10 is about the message of salvation and how faith comes by hearing and hearing through the Word of Christ (vs. 10:17). Looking back 10:18-21 Paul wrote that the message of God’s Word has gone out to the whole world, but Israel has rejected it. Paul quoted this from Psalm 19:4 as proof that the word of the gospel went forth and Israel heard it. This makes them more accountable for their rejection of the good news.
