Luke begins his historical account of the origin of Jesus' earthly life by stating he has investigated the details thoroughly, including eyewitness testimonies. Why so important to make this point? Just a short time later in the text, the investigator reports on an angelic messenger announcing to an unassuming young woman that she is chosen by the Creator to carry and give birth (and raise) God's own Son! In the midst of such stunning words, young Mary is also informed that her older, childless relative is already six months pregnant with her own special child to raise. The two are drawn together and share this supernatural experience, affirming one another as faithful servants to God's world saving mission.
