A timely consideration is our view of our human body and how it relates to growing as a disciple of Jesus. In our present cultural climate in the U.S., a strong movement urges one to reject the biblical view of one’s body. The new cultural view: our body is not trustworthy, because it may contradict our emotional state, feelings, or desires for our life going forward. How so? To reject the objective truth of our body enables one to elevate choice for gender -known as fluidity - and other dimensions of human sexuality and identity.
Willard’s biblical guidance shows how our bodily existence is the arena of discipline, using spiritual practices. That is, we choose by will to do certain things in order to influence our thinking. This directly counters the present cultural view of the body following the mind’s choices.
