News from the television world with a Royal flair.

And we wrap up with insights on the continuing COVID-19 pandemic and the response from the Trump Administration. We look at how it has impacted immigration and how it might impact the reopening of schools in the Fall.

This week on Pop and Politics, we take a look at the current political and cultural climate in the United States.

The last two-plus weeks have seen mass demonstrations in our cities, violence, more police brutality, and a nation crying out for change.

But we are also a nation that is in need of leadership. We take a look at the President of the United States who seems to be nothing more than a bystander - a tourist posing for a photo at this monumental time in our history.

We also discuss how this moment should prompt calls for a national reckoning of our history and how we want to position ourselves for the future.

THIS IS POP AND POLITICS.

On this week's episode of Pop and Politics, we will talk about a series of incidents that have taken place this week that put the issue of race relations in America on full display for the world.

We will talk about the incident between Amy Cooper and Christian Cooper in New York’s Central Park. A seemingly everyday interaction that was horribly escalated because of race. And we will also take a look at the documented death of George Floyd at the hands of a police officer in Minneapolis and the turmoil that has followed over the last several days.

These incidents are not isolated, and unfortunately are not unique in our country. The videos we have seen are horrific, but in some cases not surprising given our history and current climate. They are terrible, but sadly not unusual. What has changed is the ability for people to be able to record them and distribute them to the world.

This week we talk about student loan debt in this country, and the benefits for providing, at least some, forgiveness of debt obligations to borrowers.

Student loan debt forgiveness became a hot debate topic during the recent democratic presidential primary, and now seems to become increasingly necessary in our pandemic riddled economy.  Of course, those in the "personal responsibility" crowd have expressed their opposition to student loan debt forgiveness.

And, of course, as with anything else in our current political climate - this has become an increasingly partisan issue.

On this week's episode of Pop & Politics we take a look at a story that seems to have bridged the gap between political and popular culture. It is an alleged murder case in Brunswick, Georgia that has been thrust into the national spotlight. After moving at a slow pace for two months, the case of Ahmaud Arbery's killing has recently hit a warp speed. This after a video was released showing an alleged vigilante type altercation and murder of Arbery by two men who assumed he was a suspected burglar.

We look into the background of the case, how it has progressed, and discuss the bigger picture.
