Hello and welcome to Bill vs the MCU! Each month your hosts Pop Break Podcasts Editor Alex Marcus and Pop Break Editor in Chief Bill Bodkin take another step into the wider Marvel Multiverse, with reviews and interviews on the film and television series that may be drawn upon as the MCU dives deeper and deeper into its Multiverse Saga.
After rewatching the first four phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in season one and rewatching most of the first phase of Marvel’s Defenders Saga in season two, Alex and Bill are back with their third season, entitled “Agents in Crisis,” where they will be diving into the broadcast television corner of Marvel Multiverse and reviewing select arcs from the first four seasons of Agents of SHIELD.
This month, Alex and Bill check in with select mini-arcs from SHIELD’s second season, including S2E9-11, S2E16-17, and S2E20-22, as our team tries to fend off the last remaining forces of Hydra while discovering the mystery of the Inhumans.
To help them discuss this sophomore season, Alex sits down with the man who spent most of the last decade writing SHIELD recaps for The Pop Break.com and who now serves as one half of The Anniversary Brothers Podcast, Aaron Sarnecky.

Welcome to “Pop Break Goes to Washington” where host Allison Lips is joined by a special guest to discuss the historical significance and impact of a political film. Allison and her guests discuss how politics is portrayed in each film. While this podcast focuses on the American political system, it does make a few forays outside of the United States.
For our first episode, Allison and Aaron Sarnecky from The Anniversary Brothers podcast explore the themes present in the movie that inspired the title of this podcast: Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. The movie made a splash when it debuted at an event sponsored by the National Press Club. While politicians and the press criticized the James Stewart vehicle, the public bought enough tickets to make it the second highest grossing film at the 1939 box office-behind Gone with the Wind.
Join Allison and Aaron as they debate whether the classic 1939 Frank Capra film holds up today and deserves its reputation as one of the best films ever.
Senior Writer Aaron Sarnecky and Senior TV Columnist Josh Sarnecky are here with their latest podcast. Today they’re talking about Saving Private Ryan for its 25th anniversary.
Saving Private Ryan is an epic war film directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Robert Rodat. It opened in theaters on July 24, 1998.
In the film, US Army Ranger Cpt. John Miller (Tom Hanks) leads his men across Nazi-occupied France to find Private James Ryan (Matt Damon), whose three brothers have all died in combat, and return him home.
Saving Private Ryan was the second highest grossing film of 1998. It was nominated for 11 Oscars, winning five, including Best Director. The film lost Best Picture to Shakespeare in Love, which many critics consider one of the Academy’s biggest mistakes.
Aaron and Josh talk about the movie’s plot, performances, effects, and depiction of World War II. They also discuss its influence on future WWII media.
For another podcast on Spielberg, you can listen to Aaron and Josh chat with Editor-in-Chief Bill Bodkin about Jurassic Park.
Saving Private Ryan is streaming on Paramount Plus and Pluto TV.

Batman takes a back seat in this podcast as we delve into a heavy DC-centric episode! The Flash has come and gone faster than the Flash himself. Despite all the hoopla and hype surrounding this film, it now stands as one of the biggest box office flops of all time. How did we get here???
Joined by his DC brethren, Podcast Editor, Alex Marcus, and Editor-in-Chief of the popbreak, Bill Bodkin, the three surgically pick apart how this happened as if it were an Operation game on steroids. Aside from dissecting The Flash, the three do a deep dive on all things DC and superhero movies in general. Yes, the three get their hands dirty and ask the dreaded and cliché of all cliché questions – “Is there superhero fatigue in Hollywood?” But we promise, it’s an evaluation to this question like you’ve never heard!
The trio also catch up on all the major Superman: Legacy news, offering their thoughts on the cast, discuss what James Gunn needs to do going forward to make this new DC Universe a success, and each panelist singles out one upcoming movie from DC they are looking forward to most in the near future. The answers may surprise you!
