Overview: During the sermon there was an emergency that the congregation had to deal with which is the reason for the break in recording after about 20 minutes.-----In this passage the apostle Paul is dealing with the question, -Have God-s promises to the people of Israel failed, given that many Israelites are not saved-- The answer to this question is -No-.- Not one of the promises of God have failed.- But the promises of God apply, not so much to the physical children of Abraham as to his spiritual children, who are those whom God has chosen, from both Jews and Gentiles, to belong to himself.- The structure to the passage is as follows,----1.--- The principle stated, verses 6 and 7a.--2.--- The principle proved from the Old Testament by---a---- The story of the sending away of Ishmael, verses 7b to 9--b---- The story of the choice of Jacob over Esau, verses 10 to 13.----This shows us that we should not assume that our natural parentage gives us any claim on God-s kindness.- Those who are saved are saved should remember that their salvation is entirely according to God-s kindness, and not due to any merit of works of their own.-
