Generosity is never about what God wants FROM you but what God wants FOR you. God does not need anything from you – including money. Just as God clothed the birds and the trees, so also God clothes and gives everything to you – including an ability to earn and use money. God is not after the money He gave you but He does desire a heart for you that is free from worry and hate. How does living generously produce a heart God desires for you?

Thankfulness comes from giving and giving produces thankfulness. What a powerful principle to meditate on as we gather to celebrate Thanksgiving not Thankshaving.

Would you agree with these financial principles? Buy low and sell high. The power of compound interest. Saving for a rainy day. The economy of our lives functions according to financial principles. Could it be that God also has financial principles set up in His economy? As we look through the cross, could it be that tithing is more important to God than we thought?

It is neither guilt over what you are not doing nor excitement over how God might bless you that produces a generous heart. It is deep gratitude for what Jesus has already done for you on the cross. Remembering the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ does more to compel generosity than a hundred guilt-trips or inspiring promises.

Grace is a difficult subject. While we like to speak of grace, it makes us uncomfortable. The essence of grace says that you had nothing to do with it. Grace is the favor of God which is undeserved and unearned. Our human

saying, “There is no free lunch!” Yet every person is hungry for unconditional grace. It is in the Gospel of Jesus Christ where we find what our soul longs for, Grace Alone.
