  • The Porcelain Duster of Lost Highway, Nevada

In the summer of 2019, I drove through the high desert of central Nevada, past the turnoff for a ghost town called Currant. A woman was standing at the edge of the highway, holding a porcelain duster—a long-handled brush with a porcelain head, the bristles white as bone. She flagged me down. She needed a ride to the next town, she said. But the next town was forty miles of empty road, and the sun was going down behind the mountains. I let her in. She smelled like dry clay and dust. She didn't speak for the first ten miles. Then she started talking about the house she'd just left, and the things she'd been brushing off the walls. The duster was clean when she got in. By the time we reached the gas station at Warm Springs, the bristles were dark gray and caked with something that looked like ash. She said she had to go back. She said the dust was still falling.

  • The Porcelain Ticket of Lost Mile, Kansas

A late-night shift at a forgotten gas station in western Kansas. A woman in a blue dress buys a single ticket for a bus that hasn't run in forty years. Her fingers leave no prints on the counter; her breath fogs the glass she never touches. When the bus finally comes, it has no headlights, no driver, and all the windows are dark. Luna pieces together what happened to the woman—and what waits for anyone else who buys a ticket from the rusted machine out back.

  • The Porcelain Hearth of Dry Fork, West Virginia

In the winter of 1987, a traveling folklorist recorded an eighty-year-old woman in Dry Fork, West Virginia, who told a story about her grandmother's porcelain hearth tiles. The tiles, painted with scenes of rural life, had a strange property: when the fire burned low, the figures in the tiles would move. At first it was just a shifting shadow, a hand reaching for a bucket that wasn't there before. But as the woman's grandmother grew older, the tiles began to show things that hadn't happened yet. A horse throwing its rider. A figure lying still in a field. The woman watched them for decades, and she came to believe that the tiles were not just recording the future, but choosing it. When the last tile shattered in a storm, she said the house went quiet. But she also said that the quiet was worse than the visions. Luna examines a single tile saved from that hearth, its painted figure still holding its pose, and wonders if it is waiting for the fire to be lit again.

  • The Porcelain Radio of Crane Creek, Missouri

Luna visits a small antique shop on the outskirts of Crane Creek, Missouri, in the summer of 2019. A dusty Zenith console radio sits in the corner, its cabinet intact but its speaker replaced long ago with something that looks like painted porcelain. The shopkeeper, an old man named Hollis, warns her not to touch it. She touches it anyway, and at midnight the radio plays a frequency that no longer exists — a broadcast from a town that was drowned when the reservoir was built in 1937. But the voices on that broadcast are still talking, and they seem to know she is listening. What they ask her for is not something she can give, but the radio won't stop asking. A quiet, slow-burn episode about the things that refuse to be silenced by water, time, or distance.

  • The Porcelain Pickup of Buck Creek, Indiana

In the winter of 2008, Luna's cousin Ray bought a 1967 Ford F-100 pickup at an estate sale in Buck Creek, Indiana. The truck came with a porcelain figurine wedged under the seat—a little girl in a blue dress, painted smile, cracked at the neck. Ray thought nothing of it until the truck started driving itself at night. Luna tells the story of the six weeks Ray owned that truck, the things it did after midnight, and the night he finally understood what the figurine wanted. It is a story about the weight of unfinished business and the sound of an engine turning over in a cold, dark garage. About a road that leads to the same place no matter which direction you take. And about a little girl who has been waiting a very long time for a ride home.

  • The Porcelain Nightgown of Lost Creek, Missouri

In the winter of 2003, Luna's great-aunt left her a Victorian farmhouse in Lost Creek, Missouri — and a single porcelain doll locked in a cedar chest. The doll wore a nightgown stitched with human hair, and its face was not painted on. Every night for a week, Luna found the doll in a different room, the nightgown slightly damp, the air smelling of well water and rot. She never saw it move, but she heard it breathe. This is the story of what she found in the attic — and what she buried in the garden before she left.

  • The Porcelain Piano of Yellow River, Wisconsin

Luna recounts a cold December night in Yellow River, Wisconsin, where she stayed with an elderly piano tuner named Ezra. His antique piano, repaired with porcelain keys from a dismantled doll, played a melody that hadn't been written. Ezra spoke of the doll's previous owner, a girl named Margot who died in 1928. When Luna touched the keys alone, the room filled with the scent of lilacs and damp wool—the same scent Margot wore. The piano played on, a child's lullaby in a minor key, and Luna saw a small handprint on the wood, palm facing up, as if asking. She left at dawn, but the melody followed her home, playing in the static of her car radio, the hum of her refrigerator. She still hears it, just at the edge of hearing, waiting for her to return.

  • The Porcelain Sweater of Indian Creek, West Virginia

In the winter of 2002, on a back road through Indian Creek, West Virginia, Luna stopped at a roadside stall run by a woman named Elara. The stall sold hand-knitted sweaters—beautiful, intricate, too warm for the season. Luna bought a cream-colored one with a repeating pattern of white flowers. That night, she noticed the sweater never got dirty. It never frayed. It never lost its shape. And when she held it up to the light, she saw the stories. Every thread was a memory—a childhood home, a lost pet, a first kiss. The sweater was made of time, not yarn. Elara was knitting lives together. Luna kept wearing it, even after she knew. Because some warmth you cannot bear to take off, even when it burns.

  • The Porcelain Scarecrow of Lonesome Hollow

In the autumn of 2004, Luna drives through the Tennessee hills to visit a woman she barely knows—a folk artist named Nell who collects scarecrows. Nell's farm sits in a hollow where the light dies early and the crows never quite leave. When Luna sees the scarecrow in the back field, she understands why Nell called her. It isn't straw and old clothes. It's porcelain. White, smooth, cracked at the jaw. And it moves when the wind doesn't blow. This is a story about a thing that should not stand, about a woman trying to outrun something she built, and about the sound of porcelain grinding against wood in the dark. No neat endings. Just the hollow and what waits there.

  • The Porcelain Grave of Shiloh Ridge, Tennessee

October 1997. A moonlit dirt road in rural Tennessee. Luna's cousin Caleb finds a porcelain doll lying on his grandmother's grave — a doll he buried with her twelve years ago. The porcelain is warm to the touch. The painted eyes follow him as he walks around the cemetery. He calls Luna that night, his voice strange and hollow, asking if she believes the dead can leave gifts. She drives down from Nashville to find him sitting on the back porch, the doll in his lap, staring at the tree line. He tells her about the dreams — every night since he found it, a woman in a white dress standing at the foot of his bed, her mouth moving but no sound coming out. Luna stays with him a week. The dreams stop when the doll is returned to the grave. But the dirt on the grave is always loose now, like something is breathing underneath.

About Porcelain — Fexingo Horror

From the publisher's feed

Porcelain is an anthology horror podcast where each episode is a self-contained story connected by the delicate, unsettling presence of antique dolls. Luna guides listeners through a collection of tales that explore the uncanny nature of porcelain-faced figures—dolls that seem to watch, that hold secrets in their painted eyes, that appear in places they shouldn't be. From a Victorian mansion where a collection of dolls begins to rearrange themselves at night, to a small-town antique shop where a single doll carries the weight of a forgotten tragedy, to a modern home where a child's doll begins to whisper in a language no one speaks, these stories are slow-burn and intimate, steeped in dread and the quiet horror of the familiar turned wrong. The atmosphere is one of faded elegance and creeping unease, like a room filled with glass cases and silent observers. Each episode stands alone, but all share a central motif: the doll as a vessel for something old, something patient, something that waits. Luna's narration is hushed and deliberate, drawing the listener into a world where the line between plaything and prisoner begins to blur. Open any episode, but be warned: the dolls are always watching.
