Christ meets you where you are, He has a plan for your boat and teaches you to go a little further, so that when He asks you to go deep in relationship with Him, your net is ready for a miraculous catch.  
Jesus is not trying to hold you back, He wants to keep you close, you must find your rest in Christ, and it comes from learning from God. Biblical wisdom is knowing how God wants you to use your knowledge, it is knowing how to see things as Christ sees them.
