The CEO and Founder of Lantern, Liz Eddy, stops by the show to give us advice on how to have more empathy in conversations. Many of life's struggles are difficult to talk about and she tells us about how she used her talents in entrepreneurship to address this.

Liz Eddy builds companies that tackle taboo topics. She founded her first social venture at age 15 focused on dating abuse and domestic violence education in schools. The org has been running (on its own) for nearly half her life.

After graduating with a BBA from Parsons the New School for Design, she ran Special Projects for DoSomething.org, one of the largest global orgs for teens and social change. Then, she joined the founding team of Crisis Text Line as the Director of Communications. She oversaw brand, PR, marketing, strategic partnerships and business development--- growing the org to 12,000 volunteers, 76 million messages, in 3 countries. She left Crisis Text Line in 2018 to launch Lantern, a venture backed Public Benefit Corporation on a mission to change the way we talk about and manage end of life and death.

Liz earned a Masters of Science in Strategic Communications from Columbia University in 2019. She is an active volunteer and Board member for Experience Camps, a one-week free summer camp for children who've lost a loved one. She is also a World Economic Forum Global Shaper, and committee member for the Dying Well Initiative of the Global Wellness Institute. In her free time, she is on a global search for the spiciest food.

Joel Ifill is a career engineer, innovator, inventor and entrepreneur. Born and raised in Michigan he received his undergraduate degree in Welding Engineering from Pennsylvania College of Technology and has spent over 10 years in a variety of engineering roles for diverse industries including; Aerojet focusing on precision guided munitions, and Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory developing next generation nuclear reactor technology.

He specializes in the intersection of new technology, automation, and critical safety environments holding multiple patents in diverse fields from mechanical engineering, to welding engineering, to aerospace engineering disciplines. In 2017 he founded DASH Systems with the mission and vision to perform next day deliveries anywhere on the globe. This vision is accomplished by enabling precision commercial air drops that allow any aircraft to safely launch and land cargo mid flight. With Joel as the CEO DASH Systems has been at the forefront of the growth and expansion of precision air drop technologies including numerous patents, deployments into multiple hurricanes and active disaster recovery efforts, department of defense contracts, and commercial deliveries to service rural remote and hard to reach communities.

Previously, co-founded 2 startups - a smartphone gaming app company and a leading global Online Reputation Management company that had Bollywood celebrities, HNIs and MNCs as clients ; She is a serial entrepreneur, who is always looking for solutions to simplify businesses - making them more productive and efficient. She started working while still in school when she landed a role in a Bollywood film when she was 10 years old. While studying Bachelor’s, she joined a stockbroking firm making her one of the youngest certified stock-broker from National Stock Exchange at the age of 18. She has also previously worked in Bank of America and S&P Global. She has lived an adventurous life and has amassed 15 years of diversified experience in entertainment, finance, technology, and retail.
She believes spirituality is the guiding force in her life and practices Vipassana meditation every day. She is known as the happiest and most optimistic person in her circles. However, she wasn’t always the happy person who people know her as now. She has evolved from a pessimist to an eternal optimist, and it took her 30 years and many hard lessons in that journey to make her realize who she truly is.
