How do we read the bible for formation and not just information? What is spiritual reading, and are certain parts of the Bible more important to read than others? Chris and Dave get started in our four week series on the practice of Scripture.

What is lent, and why should we practice it? How do we find the invitation of Lent in the story of David, and what do we do when we feel disoriented and like we're hitting a wall? Dave and Chris talk about the challenges of realizing that we aren't God, and how we can learn and practice trusting Him as we journey inward in moments of un-knowing.

How do we recognize and respond to evil in the world without being consumed? What does it look like to be alert and of sober mind? Paul and Dave talk through Andrew's sermon from Sunday from 1 Peter 5 and explore how we can share our sufferings, resist the devil, and learn from one another's stories.

Is being Holy a series of choices we make, or does it come from somewhere deeper? How do we become aware of our motivations and learn to love our enemies out of who we are because of what God has done for us? Paul & Dave talk about the call to be Holy as we learn to love each other deeply.

What do we as follower of Jesus do with suffering? How do we expect it, not be afraid of it, evaluate it, and trust through it? Paul and Dave talk about the role of community, the challenge of going through our grief and not around it, and how "those who suffer according to God's will should commit themselves t their faithful Creator and continue to do good." (1 Peter 4:19)

What does submission look like in all realms of our lives - to authorities like government, to those persecuting us, and in our marriages and families? Paul and Dave talk about why "when do we submit?" might not be the right question and why everything in 1 Peter 2:13-3:7 is for all of us.

If I've accepted Jesus as my saviour and the Spirit of God lives in me, why does the Bible also talk so much about God being present when we gather - and do I really need to come every week? How does gathering together shape us to love AND like each other, and where does engaging with the Bible fit into all of this? Paul and Dave wrestle with this and lots more as we continue our series in 1 Peter.

We're back, and starting 2025 with our 1 Peter series. As we enter into this new year we're working our way through 1 Peter - a book about unshakable hope in uncertain times. Paul and Dave chat about how the introduction to the book help us focus on who we are over what's happening around us, and why coming back to our identity in Christ is so important. Why should we give our money away, how much of it, and to who or what? When it comes to money, we often want clear answers and lines. As we've been exploring in our sermon series, we're invited to give freely and sacrificially to loosen money's control over us. Dave and Paul chat about tithing, why we give to the church, and practical next steps for all of us as we manage money - no matter how much or little we have to steward.

When we look up, what's the vision of the future we see for us at Compass Point? We long to see our lives, homes, and communities increasingly changed to reflect the way of Jesus - people who make a commitment instead of only a decision, know Jesus rather just knowing about him, and are growing in influence rather than creating an impact. Paul and Dave dig into these statements and talk about why humility and pursuing the right things are key to our vision.
