Potomac Hills Presbyterian Church Sermons

At Esther's second banquet for the Xerxes and Haman, she asks the king to spare her people from destruction. The king angrily asks who has targeted her people and she reveals that it is Haman. In a stunning reversal...

In between the two feasts that Esther throws for the king and Haman, the King can't sleep and is read the royal record of Mordecai's heroic deed. When he decides to reward him, Haman is doubly insulted and has to parade his enemy around the city in honor. What can we learn from this man who would be king, and how do we see God working through providence that only looks like it's coincidence?

The tension in the book of Esther is increased as Esther puts off asking the king the request to save her people, and as Haman constructs a gallows on which to hang Mordecai. We can learn a lot about our own idolatry as we reflect on this passage.

Naaman had leprosy in 2 Kings 5 and was eventually healed when he followed the prophet Elisha's instructions. We may see our own spiritual lives in this story.
