These are the ups and downs of the 2022 shad run in Washington D.C. This is the premiere east coast fly fishing event. Every year millions of anadromous fish enter the Potomac from the ocean and swim as far upriver as they can go. We target these fish at the fall line where the tidal section meets the non-tidal section. The fish are chasing flies out of aggression. Other fish are there to eat the shad eggs and there are fish there to eat these fish. You never know what may bite your line. The fishing is good as long as the river is below four feet at Little Falls and isn't muddy. Some fish from boats, some from shore. This was as strange year with only one catfish and two stripers caught. These are the stories Rob collected throughout the 2022 season. Be sure to look through Rob's archive of 300+ episodes for more information about the shad, how and where to fish for them, and the flies Rob has created in his 20+ year career as a shad guide.
