One of the greatest hindrances to our spiritual growth is self. Self-concentration destroys the concept of teamwork and the preservation and pride of self can cause us to forget our purpose. God sees and cares for our “self” while we fulfill our purpose as God’s family and team.

In any other situation if you pour something out, the result is emptiness. With God, we are constantly filled with Him as we pour ourselves out. We will find both Paul and Jesus as examples of pouring oneself out, only to be filled with Him. Being “filled” with Him results in us overflowing and when we overflow, others catch that overflow.

This message will help us to understand why someone would pour themselves out for others or for a cause greater than our self. Parents understand this as they sacrifice and pour themselves out for their children. Christians also gain an understanding of pouring oneself out as we experience the grace and gifts of God.
