Note: This message was titled, the scripture chosen, and the 9X13 Casserole Pan image selected weeks before what has become the week of devastation brought upon some of our communities by one of the most powerful hurricanes ever to make landfall on the continental United States.
We lost power at the church and our freezers were full of casseroles prepared by our Women's Ministry to help feed people in times of need. One of our members who participates in Women's Ministry also works with a local charity. This charity wanted to take hot casseroles into the areas effected by Hurricane Michael. Our Women's ministry came together to bake all of the pre-made casseroles so that they could be taken into the storm effected areas!
This story of casseroles and hurricanes will forever be remembered by the people of God gathered at Point Washington UMC. There are no coincidences. Praise God for His Compassion and for His Mercy even in the midst of great trial. Pray!
“Most important, my brothers and sisters, never make a solemn pledge—neither by heaven nor earth, nor by anything else. Instead, speak with a simple “Yes” or “No,” or else you may fall under judgment. If any of you are suffering, they should pray. If any of you are happy, they should sing. If any of you are sick, they should call for the elders of the church, and the elders should pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. Prayer that comes from faith will heal the sick, for the Lord will restore them to health. And if they have sinned, they will be forgiven. For this reason, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous person is powerful in what it can achieve. Elijah was a person just like us. When he earnestly prayed that it wouldn’t rain, no rain fell for three and a half years. He prayed again, God sent rain, and the earth produced its fruit.” (James 5:12–18, CEB)
