It starts with honesty: understanding what you genuinely want and whether you desire surrender itself or simply want to experience your favorite FemDom fantasies. From there comes choosing a specific Dominant whose authority you genuinely respect, rather than searching for an abstract “Mistress” to fill a role in your fantasy.

There is nothing inferior about being a kinkster who wants mutual fantasy fulfillment. In Episode 40 of Power Unleashed, Professor Vesper examines the difference between submission and kink fulfillment. A client buying his preferred fantasy, a submissive paying for access to a Domme who determines what happens, and a long-term submissive using money as an act of servitude can all look almost identical from the outside while representing very different power dynamics.

The same distinction applies to Dominants. Being Dominant, working as a professional Domme, topping someone and service topping describe different things. A genuinely Dominant woman can service top a client. A submissive can function as a top. Someone can receive pain without becoming submissive, just as someone can perform dominant actions without being Dominant.

BDSM representation on television does not have to be flattering. Show me unethical Dommes, abusive sadists, stupid kinksters and ignorant sex workers. Just make them believable.

In Episode 39 of Power Unleashed, Professor Vesper looks at some of the worst, shallowest and most controversial portrayals of BDSM and kink on television - from the increasingly ridiculous domination scenes in Secret Diary of a Call Girl and a deeply misleading portrayal of pain and pleasure in 1923 to an absurd chastity emergency in 9-1-1.

I also examine the recent criticism surrounding Euphoria Season 3 and Cassie’s OnlyFans storyline - and explain why, in this case, I think accusations of bad kink representation largely miss the point.

The problem is not that every kinky character needs to be ethical, knowledgeable or representative of an entire community. Ignorance can be part of a character. It should not be part of the writing.
