Cyber Security Special
Would you know what to do if you suffered a cyber attack on your computing equipment?
Individuals and businesses are at risk from viruses, and ransomware which locks you out of your equipment with frightening warning notices saying you won’t be able to access any files unless you pay the criminals.
Some victims make things worse by trying to solve the problems themselves.
If you’re concerned you’ve been targeted - disconnect equipment from the internet, consider turning off your router and speak to a computer repair professional. But don’t go searching online for solutions as some of these links can contain malicious code themselves.
The Scottish Government publishes a Cyber Resilience Bulletin, you can report cyber crime to the police and Citizens Advice can also offer support.
Remember it’s not just computers that are at risk - mobile devices such as phones and tablets can be involved too.
If you run a website, make sure it’s kept up to date with the latest security patches, take advice on anti virus software and remember don’t click links in emails unless you trust the sender and are sure about where it’s taking you.
