In this chapter we find Nehemiah dealing with false brethren, religious leaders and political nobles. They use trickery, deceit, outright lying, which are all wiles -schemes, devices- of the devil. They employ intimidation and fear as last resorts. Whereas Nehemiah is consistently trusting in God.
