We have all seen someone who is giving what we might consider bad care. You know- the nanny in the park on her cell phone, someone losing thier patience at playgroup. This is a problem for all of us as we want all kids to be getting great care. But is it really our business? Can we judge what is appropriate or not and how can we get involved? We examine the problem of bad nannies and is it really our place to do something or not? 

In this episode we discuss the growing trend of "way out there"  questions about nannies on the internet and specifically Facebook/Twitter. We ask the question- do these questions affect us as nannies? The questions are usually very specific and often intended to get as many comments as possible. We examine how these questions can change our perspective about ourselves and the profession.

We center our conversation around the ideas of giving kids choices and how it feels and looks to create a child led expereince. We discuss the book and the question, does a having a nanny change the family structure? Of course there are many different opinions as we talk about the idea that a nanny is a part of the family. 

We celebrate our 50th episode by answering some questions from our listeners. Find out how we met each other, our favorite color and hear a few embarrassing and funny stories from our pasts. This episode is just about having a little fun!! 

This week we discuss the limits of confidentiality in regards to sharing your own personal story. When a nanny publishes a book, blog or article talking about her experiences does it break confidentiality? When you share information about what you are doing with the kids or what struggles you have with your employer is that your right to share info about your day? This is a pretty grey area because of the nature of our jobs so we have a discussion on what we think. Listen and share with us what YOU think! 

In this episode we discuss the current legislation in several states concerning Domestic Worker's Bill of Rights. These bills give domestic workers rights like overtime pay, meal breaks and more. Some of the rights we have already enjoyed as nannies but things like off the clock meal breaks may be problematic and have unintended consequences for nannies.

This week's discussion goes to the way we define our job descriptions and why do we look at it a certain way. Certain jobs around the house can trigger emotional reactions for nannies. I will not do those dirty dishes or take out the trash! But why do we react that way and where does it come from? What is OUR responsibilities when looking at the struggle of job creep and how attitudes towards household tasks can affect our job and our charges. An interesting discussion with lots of different sides to the question.
