The Bible is a collection of sixty-six books written by forty different authors over a period of fifteen hundred years. Within its pages plans unfold and themes resonate. God loves us, and once we are filled with the truth of what God is really like, it spills out to those around us. This week we dig into Luke 2 and see how receiving the gift God promised to His people changes everything.

The nation of Israel realized they could not fully follow the Law of Moses and were feeling weak and inadequate. The leaders decided to ask Samuel for a king, so they could be like the nations around them. They rejected God because they refused to embrace their own weakness, which caused them to follow a rebellious and painful path. Just like many people today, they were stuck on appearing strong. We need to be okay with looking “weak” or different from the world around us, for in that weakness, God is strong.

This week, we learn how God desires to renew what was ruined. We can rest in the unrelenting kindness, the righteous jealousy and the consistent faithfulness of the God who’s chosen not to leave us in our self-appointed state of ruin but to fiercely pursue what belongs to Him. As we’re reminded of His promise for renewal, we can look ahead with hope, knowing it’s a promise we can count on.

This week, Pastor Chip’s message entitled “Ruined” shows us how sin, entering the world through Adam and Eve, has broken each person’s relationship with God, other people and creation. Uncomfortable as it is to look at our sin and reflect on its real consequences in our lives, doing so reveals our need to be reconciled with God and our inability to do that for ourselves.

The crowning achievement of God’s creative reign is you. Being “created in the image of God” means we innately reflect God’s attributes; we are creative, intelligent, relational, spiritual beings with the ability to communicate and the capacity for moral responsibility. We were created to reflect His image to the world in all of our relationships in order to bring Him glory.
