Hello folks. First of all, a very special “Thank You!” to Jodi and Judi for leading the charge of the pancake brigade on Sunday, to Lisa for making sure we had things to eat with, and to everyone that pitched in and brought other items of food (bacon!) or helped with music, set up and clean up. We’re better together, and it was a fine feast. I’m so glad we were able to celebrate Easter as a community.
I’ve often had a deep sense of how special our Community Time is to our life together. In particular, I frequently find myself enjoying the prayer time; those blocks of silence, thoughtful words, and shared stories feel like the best sort of “sacred” to me. In the Talky Bit this week, and perhaps for a couple of subsequent weeks, I want to do some musing about prayer. I know that in a lot of traditions, the preacher uses “the pulpit” to lecture the community on something they believe needs to be addressed or changed. This will NOT be that sort of exploration, but something more like “surfing the good wave” of what is already happening, and using that as a jumping off point to explore some ways of thinking about prayer that I hope will be life giving for us as individuals, and in our life together. This week, one of the ideas I want to explore is the possible kinship between prayer and insurgency – prayer as a way of “pushing back” at big things that are not what they should be.
Kid’s Table is still underway. As promised, we’ll let you know when it shifts gears for the summer.
And just a reminder – this year, we are staying with Sunday mornings as our gathering time, so mark (at least) your mental calendars in that regard.
I’m looking forward to being together on Sunday.
Peace,
Tim Plett
