Many people shy away from Christianity, viewing faith as a list of restrictions that limit their freedom. Yet these same individuals willingly accept society's rules—the unspoken contract that governs our communities. We follow traffic laws, pay taxes, and understand that breaking certain rules leads to consequences like fines or imprisonment. Interestingly, society doesn't punish every harmful behavior; you won't face jail time for adultery, jealousy, gossip, or spreading lies about others. But when we examine life through the lens of John 1:16-17, we discover something remarkable: aligning ourselves with Christ doesn't restrict our freedom—it actually expands it. The boundaries God sets aren't chains; they're guardrails that keep us alive, safe, and positioned for blessing.
When we abide in Christ's teachings, we begin to recognize God's grace operating in every corner of our lives. Maybe your refrigerator isn't as full as it was six years ago, but there's still food inside. Your car may not be new, but it gets you to work—and praise God, you have a job to go to! Perhaps rent isn't paid on the first, but it's paid before the fifth. Your phone bill is covered. Your lights are on. Your bills are paid. In uncertain times, doors continue to open and opportunities still appear—not because we've lived perfect lives or earned these blessings, but purely because of God's grace. We walk through doors that should be closed to us. We receive what we don't deserve. This is the abundant freedom found in God's grace—not restriction, but liberation beyond measure.
