  • Praying for Connection With Our Kids_Day 4

This week we are praying for connection with our kids.

We are praying we discover what makes our kids feel loved and that we will find creative new ways to connect with them.

    ACTION STEPS:

    1) Make family time, one-on-one dates, and connecting a priority above everything else.

    2) Take the 5 Love Languages Quiz for yourself and see if you can get your kids to do it.

    3) Pray with me this week on Prayers From a Mom Podcast.

    4) Listen to what your kids are saying when they are upset with you or others.

    What hurts them the most?

    • Being left out or forgotten (quality time)
    • You said something mean (words of affirmation)
    • Someone didn't do something they promised (acts of service)
    • You never hug me anymore (physical touch)
    • She didn't buy me anything for my birthday (gifts)

    FOCUSED PRAYER:

    Father,

I am so grateful for the kids you have given me. I know I am blessed to be their mother. Help me discover creative ways to encourage and motivate my children in acts of love and compassion. Show me how to express my love in beautiful ways they can receive and feel connected to me. Help me prioritize time with my family above other worldly distractions and obligations. Lord, I don't want to be led by the passion of my emotions that lead me to hurt my family, instead fill me with your spirit so I can show love and grace.

    In Jesus Name, Amen!

    SCRIPTURES TO PRAY THIS WEEK:

    Hebrews 10:23-25

23 So now wrap your heart tightly around the hope that lives within us, knowing that God always keeps his promises! 24 Discover creative ways to encourage others and to motivate them toward acts of compassion, doing beautiful works as expressions of love. 25 This is not the time to pull away and neglect meeting together, as some have formed the habit of doing. In fact, we should come together even more frequently, eager to encourage and urge each other onward as we anticipate that day dawning.

    Ephesians 4:23-32

23 But don't let the passion of your emotions lead you to sin! Don't let anger control you or be fuel for revenge, not for even a day. 27 Don't give the slanderous accuser, the Devil, an opportunity to manipulate you! 28 If any one of you has stolen from someone else, never do it again. Instead, be industrious, earning an honest living, and then you'll have enough to bless those in need. 29 And never let ugly or hateful words come from your mouth, but instead let your words become beautiful gifts that encourage others; do this by speaking words of grace to help them. 30 The Holy Spirit of God has sealed you in Jesus Christ until you experience your full salvation. So never grieve the Spirit of God or take for granted his holy influence in your life. 31 Lay aside bitter words, temper tantrums, revenge, profanity, and insults. 32 But instead be kind and affectionate toward one another. Has God graciously forgiven you? Then graciously forgive one another in the depths of Christ's love.

    Psalm 91

  • Praying Our Kids Follow Jesus_Day 4

So this week we are praying our kids follow Jesus!

Last week we prayed about all the many needs in this world and our kids (just like you and me) have a calling to meet those needs.

This can be a little scary as a mom because it doesn't mean their life will be easy and perfect.

But we have to remind ourselves that God equips them with everything they need to pursue that calling.

    ACTION STEPS:

    1) Talk to your kids about different people they know who follow Jesus.

    2) Discuss ways they could follow Jesus in this season of their life using the gifts and talents God has given them.

    3) Have discussions about the fears and temptations that might keep them from sharing Jesus with others.

    FOCUSED PRAYER:

    Father,

Thank you for loving my child so much that you have given them the free gift of salvation. Help them see they have a divine calling and purpose to spread your love to the rest of the world. Lord show them what that looks like in this season of their life. I know the enemy does not want my child to fulfill this purpose, but you have already equipped them with everything they need to resist the devil's schemes. Use those hard times in my child's life as a testimony to others who walk through that struggle. Lord send your angels on assignment to surround my kids as they pick up their cross and follow you.

    In Jesus Name, Amen!

    SCRIPTURES TO PRAY THIS WEEK:

    Matthew 3:15-17

15 Jesus replied, "It is only right to do all that God requires." Then John baptized Jesus.16 And as Jesus rose up out of the water, the heavenly realm opened up over him and he saw the Holy Spirit descend out of the heavens and rest upon him in the form of a dove. 17 Then suddenly the voice of the Father shouted from the sky, saying, "This is my Son—the Beloved! My greatest delight is in him."

    Mark 1:9-13

9 One day, Jesus came from the Galilean village of Nazareth and had John immerse him in the Jordan River. 10 The moment Jesus rose up out of the water, John saw the heavenly realm split open, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him like a dove. 11 At the same time, a voice spoke from heaven, saying: "You are my Son, my cherished one, and my greatest delight is in you!" 12 Immediately after this he was compelled by the Holy Spirit to go into an uninhabited desert region. 13 He remained there in the wilderness for forty days, enduring the ordeals of Satan's tests. He encountered wild animals, but also angels who appeared and ministered to his needs.

    Luke 4:1-13

1–2 From the moment of his baptism, Jesus overflowed with the Holy Spirit. He was taken by the Spirit from the Jordan into the wilderness of Judea to experience for forty days the ordeal of testing by the accuser. He ate no food during this time and ended his forty-day fast very hungry. 3 It was then the devil said to him, "If you are really the Son of God, command this stone to turn into a loaf of bread for you."4 Jesus replied, "I will not! For it is written in the Scriptures, 'Life does not come only from eating bread but from God. Life flows from every revelation from his mouth.' 5 The devil lifted Jesus high into the sky, and in a flash showed him all the kingdoms and regions of the world. 6–7 The devil then said to Jesus, "All of this, with all its power, authority, and splendor, is mine to give to whomever I wish. Just do one thing, and you will have it all. Simply bow down to worship me, and it will be yours! You will possess everything!" 8 Jesus rebuked him and said, "Satan, get behind me! For it is written in the Scriptures, 'Only One is worthy of adoration; therefore, worship only the Lord your God and love him supremely.' " 9 Next, the devil took Jesus to Jerusalem, set him on the highest point of the temple, and tempted him, saying, "If you really are the Son of God, jump down in front of all the people. 10–11 For it is written in the Scriptures, 'God has given his angels instructions to protect you from harm. For angels' hands will hold you up and keep you from hurting even one foot on a stone.' " 12 Jesus replied, "It is also written in the Scriptures, 'How dare you provoke the Lord your God!' " 13 That silenced the devil's harassment for the time being. So he retreated until an opportune time.
