Members Reviews:
Typical Deaver plot with twists all the way
What did you like most about Praying for Sleep?
Strong characters with lots of subplots. There was obviuosly going to be a twist at the end, it was intriguing to try and work it out before you got there ( I did in this case :-) ).
What aspect of Tim Machins performance might you have changed?
I felt that in mid chapter when the scenes moved to different locations there wasn't enough of a pause to give you a chance to realise you had moved elsewhere. This led to me feeling a bit confused at times.
Hugely disappointed
I enjoy Jeffery Deaver's novels, but I had to give up on this one when I realised I still had 8 hours to go.The story meanders along without really getting anywhere and the treatment of mental health issues is outdated. The narration doesn't help. It sounds wooden and the reader is unable to distinguish between different characters' voices
A very slow burner
Takes till very near the end before it gets gripping. Good ending though . Not the best of PF Jeffery Deaver
A fairly predictable tale
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Not really. It is basically a very simple story that is overcomplicated with a long list of red herrings.
Would you be willing to try another book from Jeffery Deaver? Why or why not?
There are a lot of other writers I would try first.
Did Tim Machin do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?
He did his best with a poor text and a host of characters who had little to distinguish them.
Could you see Praying for Sleep being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?
I hope not. I certainly won't be watching it.
Manhunt chase - didn't engage with the characters
Interesting end, but I just didn't engage with the characters, and didn't capture my interest. At several points I seriously considered questioned why I was listening to this, and even with an interesting unusual end I haven't changed my view.
