Set at the beginning of the occupation of Afghanistan, The Kite Runner follows the story of a young boy named Amir. Throughout the book, Amir must deal with jealousy, racism, and the horrors brought to Afghanistan by the occupation of both the Russian army and the Taliban. After fleeing Afghanistan to immigrate to the United States, Amir must eventually return to the land of his birth and come to terms with pieces of his past he does not want to remember.
