Angelou details her years in depression era Arkansas as well as St. Louis and California. She deals with hardships and joys along the way. Her powerful story highlights tough subjects such as black identity in America, racism, education, social status and so much more. Angelou has been an influence for many in our society and we truly enjoyed diving into her life.

Set at the beginning of the occupation of Afghanistan, The Kite Runner follows the story of a young boy named Amir. Throughout the book, Amir must deal with jealousy, racism, and the horrors brought to Afghanistan by the occupation of both the Russian army and the Taliban. After fleeing Afghanistan to immigrate to the United States, Amir must eventually return to the land of his birth and come to terms with pieces of his past he does not want to remember.

We step into a world where owning books is illegal, and if you are found with a book of any kind, it must be burned - and usually your house gets burned with it. Guy Montag is one of the firemen responsible for these book burnings, and is content in his life until suddenly things start to change... Will he continue his life as a fireman, or will he soon discover that a world without books is a world destined for destruction?
