Bi-lingual Sermon
1 Thessalonians / Tesalonicenses 2:6-12, 19
This message is a solemn charge for the new elders, but everyone needs to hear it.
El mensaje para el dia de hoy es un solemne cargo para los nuevos presbiteros, pero todos deben escucharlo.
The first rule of pastoral ministry is this: seek the glory of God alone. Much of your work and service will require you to speak the truth in love. In all your visiting, counseling, teaching, and preaching, speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts. This is for your good and the good of others. It will save you and those who hear you.
La primera regla del ministerio pastoral es esta: buscar la gloria de Dios solamente. Una gran parte de su y servicio requerirá que digan la verdad con amor. En todas sus visitas, consejería, enseñanza, alabanza, y predicación que hagan, haganlo, no para agradar al hombre, sino para agradar a Dios que prueba el corazon. Esto es para su bien y el bien de los demás. Ademas, esto les salvará a Uds mismos y a quienes les escuchen.
The second rule of pastoral ministry is this: shroud your authority in meekness and gentleness. “Speak softly, yet carry a big stick.” The stick we carry is the equipment of shepherds. The rid and staff should comfort and correct not cause harm. In truth, Our “big stick” is nothing less than the cross of Christ.
La segunda regla del ministerio pastoral es esta: envuelve su autoridad con mansedumbre y amabilidad. Un dicho Americano dice: Habla en voz baja, pero lleva un palo grande. Pues el palo que llevamos como ancianos es el equipaje de pastores. La vara y el cayado pastoral deben infundir aliento -- no causar daño. En verdad, nuestro palo es nada mas que la cruz de Cristo.
Elders, use your authority as presbyers to love and serve the church, which is the people and the family of God.
Ancianos, ocupen su autoridad como presbiteros para amar y servir a la iglesia, cual es el pueblo y la familia de Dios.
In context of 1 Thessalonians 2, the ministry of Paul, Timothy, and Silas is described in familial terms. Our ministry as a Session must be characterized in the same way.
En contexto, el ministerio de Pablo, Timoteo y Silas se describe en términos familiares. Nuestro ministerio como Consistorio debe ser caracterizado de la misma manera.
The relationship between a congregation and her pastor and elders is like the relationships we see in a family.
La relación entre una congregación y su pastor y los ancianos es como las relaciones que vemos en una familia.
So, you must embody these rules in three ways: like a mother, like a brother, and like a father.

Like a mother, you must nurse the church as your little children. The children under your care need lots and lots of care and protection. In many ways, their well-being depends on you. That is why you must carry them. Cherish them. Comfort them. Challenge them. Cuddle them.
If you truly love them, you will be delighted to share with them the gospel of God's grace -- and your lives as well. This will allow them to grow up in the truth and love of God.
Como una madre, deben cuidar a la iglesia como a sus propios hijos pequeños. Los niños bajo su cuidado necesitan mucho, pero mucho, cariño, apoyo, y protección. En muchos sentidos, su bienestar espiritual depende de ti como un presbitero. Por eso, hay que llevarlos. Apreciarlos. Consolarlos. Desafiarlos. Abrazarlos.
Si realmente los amas, estarás encantado de compartir con ellos el evangelio de la gracia de Dios, y tu vida también. Esto les permitirá crecer en la verdad y en el amor de Dios.
Like a brother, you must set an example of godliness for your siblings. Work hard to ease their burdens and make life better for them. Do your part to take care of the family, and urge your siblings to do their part as well. Show them how to live in God's family as children of God. Make sure your brothers and sisters know the Father's expectations and household rules.
Como un hermano, debes poner un ejemplo de piedad para tus hermanos. Trabajes duro para aliviar sus cargas y hacer que la vida sea mejor para ellos. Haz tu parte para cuidar de la familia e inste a tus hermanos a que también hagan su parte. Muéstreles cómo vivir en la familia de Dios como hijos de Dios. Asegúrete de que tus hermanos y hermanas conozcan las expectativas del Padre y las reglas del hogar de la familia de Dios.
Like a father, you must call your children to your side to counsel them, to console them, to correct them. The church under your care needs fathers who are present -- and take an interest and get involved in the life of their children. Your children will not always do everything that needs to be done. Like with all children, there will be growing pains. Sometimes children do what is right and good, sometimes they do not. You must remind them to walk in a way that pleases the Lord, not self. To live lives worthy of God, not man.
Como un padre, debes llamar a tus hijos a tu lado para aconsejarlos, consolarlos, dirigirlos. La iglesia bajo tu cuidado necesita padres que estén presentes y fieles, y que se interesen y se involucren en la vida de sus hijos. Sus hijos no siempre harán todo lo que se deben de hacer. Como con todos los niños, habrán varios dolores de crecimiento. A veces los niños harán lo correcto y lo bueno, a veces no lo van a hacer. Debes recordarles que ellos deben caminar de una manera que agrada al Señor, no a uno mismo. -- y vivir vidas dignas de Dios, no del hombre.
Finally, do all these things with a view toward the second coming of the Lord. The future glory shapes the present life.
Finalmente, hagas todas estas cosas con la vista fija a la segunda venida del Señor. La gloria del futuro es lo que da forma a las practicas actual del presente.
As parents, our pride and joy is found in our children. Likewise, as presbyters, our joy and crown, our glory and joy, is the congregation we serve in this corner of the Church where we are sent and seated as the Session.
Como padres, nuestro orgullo y alegría se encuentra en nuestros hijos. De la misma manera, como presbíteros, nuestra alegría y nuestra corona, nuestra gloria y nuestro gozo, es la congregación a la que servimos en este rincón de la Iglesia a la que somos enviados y sentados como la Sesion o Consitorio.
Elders, don't waste your life grumbling or complaining about your church family. Rather, spend your life growing and constructing her in the faith. Finding faults only makes you a critic; fixing faults makes you a caretaker of souls.
Ancianos, no desperdicien su vida gruñendo o quejándose de la familia de su iglesia. Más bien, pasen sus vidas apoyando su crecimiento de ella y tratando de construirla en la fe. Solamente buscando faltas se te hace un crítico; pero componiendo y arreglando lo que hace falta se te hace un cuidador de almas.
At the end of all things, when Christ comes, you will give account for your work and service in God's family.
A fin de cuentas, cuando Cristo venga, darás cuenta de tu trabajo y servicio en la familia de Dios.
My hope and prayer is that you will be able to point to this congregation and boast and brag before the Lord for his work in her.
Mi esperanza y oración es que puedan señalar a esta congregación y presumir y jactar ante el Señor por su obra en ella.
To conclude: Presbyters, may the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit be your model and guide as you love and serve God's family as a mother, a brother, and a father -- in the anguish of childbirth -- until Christ is formed in your little children! (Gal. 4:19)
Para concluir: Presbiteros, que el Padre, el Hijo y el Espíritu Santo sean su modelo y guía a medida que aman y sirven a la familia de Dios como una madre, un hermano y un padre -- sufriendo dolores de parto -- hasta que Cristo sea formado en sus queridos hijos (Gal. 4:19).

Do you believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, as originally given, to be the inerrant Word of God, the only infallible rule of faith and practice?

¿Recibe sinceramente y adopta la Confesión de Fe y adopta los Catecismos de esta iglesia como contenedores del sistema de doctrina enseñados en las Santas Escrituras; y promete aún más que si en cualquier momento usted se encuentra en desacuerdo con cualquiera de los fundamentos de este sistema de doctrina, por propia iniciativa usted lo hará saber a su consistorio respecto del cambio que ha tenido lugar en sus enfoques desde que asumió este voto de ordenación?
Do you approve of the form of government and discipline of the Presbyterian Church in America, in conformity with the general principles of biblical polity?
¿Aprueba la forma de gobierno y disciplina de la Iglesia Presbiteriana en América, Chile en conformidad con los principios generales de la política bíblica?
Do you accept the office of ruling elder (or deacon, as the case may be) in this church, and promise faithfully to perform all the duties thereof, and to endeavor by the grace of God to adorn the profession of the Gospel in your life, and to set a worthy example before the Church of which God has made you an officer?
¿Acepta el oficio de presbítero gobernante (o diácono, según sea el caso) en esta iglesia, y promete lealmente desempeñar todos los deberes que éste entraña y esforzarse por gracia de Dios para enriquecer la profesión del Evangelio en su vida y dar un ejemplo digno ante la iglesia de la cual Dios lo ha hecho oficial?
Do you promise to submit to your brethren in the Lord?
¿Promete sumisión a sus hermanos en el Señor?.
Do you promise to strive for the purity, peace, unity and edification of the Church?
¿Promete luchar por la pureza, paz, unidad y edificación de la Iglesia?
Vows of the Church / Votos de la congregacion:
Do you, the members of this church, acknowledge and receive these brothers as ruling elders, and do you promise to yield them all that honor, encouragement, and obedience in the Lord to which this office, according to the Word of God and the Constitution of this Church, entitles them? If so, raise your right hand and say “Amen”.
¿Aceptan y reciben ustedes, miembros de esta Iglesia, a estos hermanos como presbíteros gobernantes y prometen darles a éllos todo ese honor, estímulo, y obediencia en el Señor a los cuales su oficio los hace merecedor, de acuerdo a la Palabra de Dios y a la Constitución de esta Iglesia?

Entonces el Pastor dirá:
Yo, ahora pronuncio y declaro que RA, CB, and BM ha sido regularmente elegido, ordenado e instalado como presbítero gobernante en esta Iglesia, de acuerdo a la Palabra de Dios, y de acuerdo con la Constitución de la Iglesia Presbiteriana en América; y que como tal éllos merecen todo ánimo, honor, y obediencia en el Señor.
