Preach the Word!

Earlier in Chapter 3, Paul exhorted the Colossians to take off the clothes of the old man (the old worldly ways), because we are now identified with Jesus in His new life. Since we have new clothes, given us by Jesus, we should wear them. Spiritually speaking, we should put on the suit of the […]

Would Ethiopia and Egypt face the judgment of God? Certainly. There is no doubt that they would experience God’s wrath that was due their sin. But that wasn’t the only thing that lay in store for them. The people also had a promise of God’s grace. There is no one beyond His reach. Trust in […]

As Paul concluded Chapter 2, he got to the main reason he wrote this letter in the first place: to warn the Colossians of the danger of legalism and superficial religion. He may never have met these Christians, but he loved them in the Lord. And he didn’t want them getting robbed of the liberty […]

When Isaiah saw visions of God’s judgment upon Babylon, he learned that even Babylon was subject to God. Be it the Babylon that was barely a few generations away for Isaiah, or the Babylon that is still future for us today, or the spiritual power behind all “Babylons”…none are outside of God’s righteous judgment. God […]

In Colossians 2, Paul wrote of both his desires for the Colossian church as well as his warnings about spiritual dangers facing them. He wanted to see the Colossians avoid spiritual shipwreck and the way to do it was to steadfastly abide in Jesus. They weren’t to trade Him for anything! The more they grew […]

Why should pastors teach the word of God? Why should Christians daily read and study their Bibles? Because the Bible is sufficient. The written word of God takes us to the Living Word of God, that we might be men and women that God desires us to be. The gospel was a grand mystery hidden in plain sight, but it came to full revelation and fruition in Jesus. Paul had a ministry regarding this mystery, one that included suffering but in which he could rejoice. He proclaimed the message of the mystery, declaring how Christ in us is the hope of glory.
