One might expect that the arrival of the King of Kings, and the Lord of Lords, would be accompanied by a display of great strength that draws worldwide attention! Yet, He came as helpless little babe, born into poverty, disgrace, and shame. In order to bring His people out of shame, He was born into shame. Christ Jesus has come to redeem you from the shame of this fallen world and your fallen nature, and to bring you to eternal glory.

You will never truly know a Merry Christmas unless you are gripped by the sinfulness of your sins, and even more so, gripped by the One who came to redeem the most vile of sinners. The Apostle Paul tells us that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—including himself, the worst of sinners. In Paul's conversion and redemption, we see an example of God's amazing grace. Be thoroughly convinced of this: Christ is the great Savior for great sinners. We are unworthy. But Christ is worthy, and sufficient for us.

The pursuit of happiness is the pursuit of every human soul. But we are discontent, we are empty, we are bored, because we were made for greatness, which this fallen world cannot provide. The Word of God teaches that believers are called and saved unto a life of abounding joy, and now believers must live it out. To "rejoice always" is a biblical command. Pastor David Ryu explains how every Christian has a moral obligation to be happy. He points out how the modern church often separates joy from happiness. However, why would anyone want to follow Jesus if He cannot supply true happiness?

But thanks be to God that we have clear apostolic instruction on this very subject.

For some believers, the lack of assurance of salvation may be a constant struggle throughout their lives. If Martin Luther was the spark for the Protestant Reformation, then John Calvin was the raging flame that made it an unstoppable fire. What did Calvin believe was the most necessary aspect of the Reformation, the highest purpose of the Reformation? It was not institutional or political reform. It was not even man's salvation. But it was the right worship of God. Calvin was far more concerned with the purity of worship than the five points of Calvinism. So, what is Reformed Worship or the Regulative Principle of Worship?
