4 And running on before, he got up into a sycamore that he might see him, for he was going to pass that [way].5 And when he came up to the place, Jesus looked up and saw him, and said to him, Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for to-day I must remain in thy house.6 And he made haste and came down, and received him with joy.
7 And all murmured when they saw [it], saying, He has turned in to lodge with a sinful man.8 But Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor, and if I have taken anything from any man by false accusation, I return [him] fourfold.9 And Jesus said to him, To-day salvation is come to this house, inasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham;10 for the Son of man has come to seek and to save that which is lost.”

  • “A Way of more Surpassing Excellence”
The Apostle Paul desired to share a way of more surpassing excellence when he preached the Gospel. Throughout Paul’s missionary journey he delighted to share the hope Jesus can bring to the sinner who repents and believes in the Lord Jesus. The work Jesus completed at Calvary’s Cross brings salvation for sinners and peace with God for time and eternity.
    Bible Scriptures: Darby Translation
1 Corinthians 12:31 “and yet shew I unto you a way of more surpassing excellence.”
    Matthew 7:24-29 “24 Whoever therefore hears these my words and does them, I will liken him to a prudent man, who built his house upon the rock;25 and the rain came down, and the streams came, and the winds blew and fell upon that house, and it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock.26 And every one who hears these my words and does not do them, he shall be likened to a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand;
27 and the rain came down, and the streams came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, and it fell, and its fall was great.28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were astonished at his doctrine,29 for he taught them as having authority, and not as their scribes.”
Psalm 61:1-2 “Hear, O God, my cry; attend unto my prayer.2 From the end of the earth will I call unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: thou wilt lead me on to a rock which is too high for me.”

  • Shepherds Wanted
There is a great need for shepherds for the people of God today. The Bible tells us that God has given some shepherds and teachers to the church. As believers in the Lord Jesus, we need spiritual food to sustain us, encourage us and build us up ready to serve. Why does the church need shepherds? What are the qualities of a shepherd? In this address, you will hear from God’s words about the needed features of a shepherd to sustain believers in Christ. It may sound a challenging task but remember we have a model we can follow in the Lord Jesus Christ the good shepherd who gave his life for the sheep.
    Bible Scriptures: Darby Translation
1 Samuel 17:37-40 “37 And David said, Jehovah who delivered me out of the paw of the lion and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said to David, Go, and Jehovah be with thee.38 And Saul clothed David with his dress, and put a helmet of bronze upon his head, and clothed him with a corselet.39 And David girded his sword upon his dress, and endeavoured to go; for he had not yet tried [it]. And David said to Saul, I cannot go in these; for I have never tried [them]. And David put them off him.40 And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in the shepherd’s bag that he had, into the pocket; and his sling was in his hand. And he drew near to the Philistine.”
1 Samuel 17:48-51 “48 And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and advanced to meet David, that David hasted, and ran towards the ranks to meet the Philistine.49 And David put his hand into the bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, and the stone sank into his forehead; and he fell on his face to the earth.
50 So David overcame the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and smote the Philistine and killed him; and there was no sword in the hand of David.51 And David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of its sheath, and killed him completely, and cut off his head with it. And when the Philistines saw that their hero was dead, they fled.”
Ecclesiastes 12:11 “11 The words of the wise are as goads, and the collections [of them] as nails fastened in: they are given from one shepherd.”
Acts 9:10-19 “10 And there was a certain disciple in Damascus by name Ananias. And the Lord said to him in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, [here am] I, Lord.11 And the Lord [said] to him, Rise up and go into the street which is called Straight, and seek in the house of Judas one by name Saul, [he is] of Tarsus: for, behold, he is praying,12 and has seen [in a vision] a man by name Ananias coming in and putting his hand on him, so that he should see.13 And Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard from many concerning this man how much evil he has done to thy saints at Jerusalem;14 and here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call upon thy name.
15 And the Lord said to him, Go, for this [man] is an elect vessel to me, to bear my name before both nations and kings and [the] sons of Israel:16 for *I* will shew to him how much he must suffer for my name.
17 And Ananias went and entered into the house; and laying his hands upon him he said, Saul, brother, the Lord has sent me, Jesus that appeared to thee in the way in which thou camest, that thou mightest see, and be filled with [the] Holy Spirit.18 And straightway there fell from his eyes as it were scales, and he saw, and rising up was baptised;19 and, having received food, got strength.”
Acts 20:7-12 “7 And the first day of the week, we being assembled to break bread, Paul discoursed to them, about to depart on the morrow. And he prolonged the discourse till midnight.8 And there were many lights in the upper room where we were assembled.9 And a certain youth, by name Eutychus, sitting at the window-opening, overpowered by deep sleep, while Paul discoursed very much at length, having been overpow

  • Where are you?
The Gospel is preached to awaken you of your need of a Saviour. God has provided a wonderful Saviour in Jesus and He is able and willing to save you. God asked Adam and Eve a question when they sinned and hid in the garden and the the question was, Where are you? God is asking you the same question today. Where are you? Have you responded to God’s invitation in the Gospel?
    Bible Scriptures: Darby Translation
    Genesis 3:10 “Where art thou?
Luke 2:8-12 “8 And there were shepherds in that country abiding without, and keeping watch by night over their flock.9 And lo, an angel of [the] Lord was there by them, and [the] glory of [the] Lord shone around them, and they feared [with] great fear.10 And the angel said to them, Fear not, for behold, I announce to you glad tidings of great joy, which shall be to all the people;11 for to-day a Saviour has been born to you in David’s city, who is Christ [the] Lord.12 And this is the sign to you: ye shall find a babe wrapped in swaddling-clothes, and lying in a manger.”
Luke 2:15-18 “15 And it came to pass, as the angels departed from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, Let us make our way then now as far as Bethlehem, and let us see this thing that is come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.
16 And they came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in the manger;17 and having seen [it] they made known about the country the thing which had been said to them concerning this child.18 And all who heard [it] wondered at the things said to them by the shepherds.”
Luke 23:46-48 “46 And Jesus, having cried with a loud voice, said, Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit. And having said this, he expired.47 Now the centurion, seeing what took place, glorified God, saying, In very deed this man was just.48 And all the crowds who had come together to that sight, having seen the things that took place, returned, beating [their] breasts.”
John 21:21-23 “21 Peter, seeing him, says to Jesus, Lord, and what [of] this [man]?22 Jesus says to him, If I will that he abide until I come, what [is that] to thee? Follow thou me.23 This word therefore went out among the brethren, That disciple does not die. And Jesus did not say to him, He does not die; but, If I will that he abide until I come, what [is that] to thee?”
Acts 9:3-6 “3 But as he was journeying, it came to pass that he drew near to Damascus; and suddenly there shone round about him a light out of heaven,4 and falling on the earth he heard a voice saying to him, Saul, Saul, why dost thou persecute me?5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And he [said], *I* am Jesus, whom *thou* persecutest.6 But rise up and enter into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.”

  • Are you hiding from God?
Hiding is something we do when we are afraid or ashamed of something we’ve done. Adam and Eve hid from the presence of God when they sinned and disobeyed him in the garden of Eden. Cain fled from the presence of God after he murdered his brother Able. The Bible tells us in the book of Romans, “as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men”. The wonderful news in the Gospel is Jesus came into the world to save sinners. At Calvary’s cross Jesus laid down His life to redeem sinners. There is no need to hide from God “he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.”
    Bible Scriptures: Darby Translation
Psalms 139:1-10 “139 Jehovah, thou hast searched me, and known [me].2 *Thou* knowest my down-sitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off;3 Thou searchest out my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways;4 For there is not yet a word on my tongue, [but] lo, O Jehovah, thou knowest it altogether.
5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thy hand upon me.6 O knowledge too wonderful for me! it is high, I cannot [attain] unto it.7 Whither shall I go from thy Spirit? and whither flee from thy presence?8 If I ascend up into the heavens thou art there; or if I make my bed in Sheol, behold, thou [art there];9 [If] I take the wings of the dawn [and] dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.11 And if I say, Surely darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night;12 Even darkness hideth not from thee, and the night shineth as the day: the darkness is as the light.13 For thou hast possessed my reins; thou didst cover me in my mother’s womb.”
Genesis 3:8-11 “8 And they heard the voice of Jehovah Elohim, walking in the garden in the cool of the day. And Man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Jehovah Elohim, in the midst of the trees of the garden.9 And Jehovah Elohim called to Man, and said to him, Where art thou?
10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I feared, because I am naked; and I hid myself.11 And he said, Who told thee that thou art naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree of which I commanded thee not to eat?”
Genesis 4:8-13 “8 And Cain spoke to Abel his brother, and it came to pass when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.9 And Jehovah said to Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: am I my brother’s keeper?10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood is crying to me from the ground.11 And now be thou cursed from the ground, which hath opened its mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand.
12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield thee its strength; a wanderer and fugitive shalt thou be on the earth.13 And Cain said to Jehovah, My punishment is too great to be borne.
Genesis 4:16 “16 And Cain went out from the presence of Jehovah, and dwelt in the land of Nod, toward the east of Eden.”
Jonah 1:1-4 “1 And the word of Jehovah came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,2 Arise, go to Nineveh, the great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.
3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of Jehovah; and he went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish, from the presence of Jehovah.4 But Jehovah sent out a great wind upon the sea, and there was a mighty tempest upon the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.”
Jonah 1:16-17 “16 And the men feared Jehovah exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto Jehovah, and made vows.17 And Jehovah prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.”
Isaiah 55:6-7 “6 Seek ye Jehovah while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near.7 Let the wicked forsake his
