  • Am I A People Pleaser?
The desire to make others happy in most cases can produce a good feeling especially when the act of kindness is appreciated or acknowledged. However when the desire makes the individual unhappy, frustrated or angry the desire can be a system of a deeper issue. It can stem from self worth issues. It could be the hope that saying yes to everything asked of them will help the individual feel accepted and liked. It could also be a way of just wanting to have peace or avoid conflicts.
It has been indicated  that People Peasing behaviors is something that can develop without one even recognizing that it is a problem. The individual may have a history of maltreatment or abuse some where along the way. It can also become a way of life for some individuals.
Many confuse People Pleasing with being kind. However there is a difference. It can lead to unhealthy behaviors such as being concerned about what others think of you. Feeling like one is being manipulated by another. If you believe that you have these tendencies realize that you have a choice. Learn how to say no without being rude.
Join me and my callers as we discuss People Pleasing behaviors. You can't pour from an empty cup. Let's learn to take care of ourself first.

  • Understanding Complicated Relationships
When It comes to relationships why do things become so complicated? Is it the relationship that most individuals struggle with? Or is it the individual that you are in a relationship with? Or could it perhaps be you or your behavior?
Relationships can become complicated for a lot of reasons. What once appeared to have been perfect match, good time and a loving marriage can turn into a problem in no time. In some cases a relationship becomes complicated because it can become one sided where one person may want to hold on to the relationship where as the other just wants to get out of it or go with someone else. And in other cases the dysfunctional relationship becomes normal and neither party wants to leave the relationship.
Many individuals say that relationships takes work. However, what does that really mean?  And what happens within a relationship when one or the other brings in baggage, drama or interpersonal trauma?
It can be very difficult to understand another person when we sometimes don't even understand ourselves.
Join me and my callers as we discuss Understanding Complicated Relationships and come up with solutions to develop healthy relationships and live in peace.

  • Coping After The Death Of A Parent
Losing a parent is never easy. Many believe that they are suppose to be ready as in some cases one's parent may have been ill or up in age. There are also cases when the death may have been tragic or unexpected. And what about those that lost their parents at a very young age?
It is believed that when a parent dies one is suppose to be prepared for this natural life passage, or at least be more ready to accept it when it happens. One is expected to pick ourselves up, close the wound quickly, and move on. But for many that is not the case. The grieving process seems to never end. And the memories still hurt
On Feburary 17th I celebrated the 10 Year Anniversary of the death of my mother Jean Brooks-Sistrunk. She passed away of Breast Cancer at the young age of 59. She was the mother of three daughters and very well known in the City Of Compton.

  • The Importance Of Self Care
When it comes to self care many individuals have told me that they was told that they was being self-fish, self centered and everything was all about them. There is so much confusion when it comes to the term self care. However, what many fail to realize is how important self care is. I believe that many individuals don't do it enough and in most cases it is because many individuals do not know how to take care of themself.
Self-care is important for your physical, mental health and relationships with others. We have watch others take care of individuals as a child yet often losing themselfs or becoming angry with themself and others as their needs were often neglected. This however became a learned behavior for many and has become a common factor as it relates to stress, depression, other mental health or medical related issues, failed and toxic relationships as co-dependency issues can mask itself in many ways.
Self- Care can be fun. It involves actively setting intentions for yourself, being honest with yourself and others about your needs, desires, fears and dreams. Let's practice self-care. It will give you the energy to help not only yourself but also to help others. And it will often strengthen relationships.
Self Care is suppose to be simple yet can also be complicated for others as it takes action and self respect.
Join myself and others as we discuss this important topic so that we can stop neglecting our self as we put others before ourself. We will be providing tools and techniques in an effort to bring a sense of awareness to learn how living for ourself effects everyone around us
    All callers are welcome.

  • Understanding The Growing Pains Of Love
When it comes to the word love many lack understanding in it's true meaning. Sometimes we bounce the word around like the word sorry. Often we want to believe it when an individual tells us that they love us. However what happens when love fails.
It is said, that all wants to be loved, understood and appreciated. With that said love itself does not hurt. It is the growth that hurts, the ego that stings.
"Love is patient and kind: love does not envy or boast: it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way: it is no irriatable or resentful: it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things," 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is a beautiful thing if you are with the right person. It can have you walking around with tons of butterflies fluttering around: pulling on your heat-strings. Love can have you act a fool for no reason. It can make you blind to everything and everyone around you, except the one you love. However, sometimes you have to be very careful of the people you allow yourself to become initimate with. Sure, everything seems smooth as cream in the beginning. However, what is one to do when that feeling of love and that emotion becomes painful?
Is a relationship suppose to be hard work? Do indiviudals really fall out of love? Can you love another when you struggle with loving yourself?

  • Acknowledging The Legacy Of Others
The deepest principle in human nature is the craving to be appreciated. Legacy is about life and living. It's about  learning from the past, living in the present, and building for the future. The idea of legacy may remind us of the death of an individual however it is not about death. But being reminded of death is actually a good thing because death informs us of life. It gives us a prespective on what's important.
Michelle Obama quoted, " We have a responsibility to live up to the legacy of those who came before us doing all that we can to help those who will come after us."
Today we are celebrating the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther Kning Jr. He dedicated his life to the non violent struggle for racial equality in the United States. The values of non violence, including unconditional love, tolerance, forgiveness and reconciliation may still be so desperately needed to reunify America. This holiday provides a unique opportunity to teach young people to fight evil, not people. We also have to do more to get in touch with our communities as we get in the habit of asking what can I do to make a difference?
Join Dr. Lisa Romain and I as we Acknowledge The Legacy Of Others. Let's continue the legacy of those before us. We will be discussing those that have made a difference in their communities, as well as around the world. Live Monday 1/15/18 12PM Pacific.

  • Understanding The Process Of Grief Loss And Mourning
As we exited 2017 and entered 2018 many individuals are no longer amongst the living and have transitioned on. There are also individuals that have lost love ones and are often reminded of the memories that were once shared.
When one experience a loss of any kind how it is expressed is based on several different factors. Many were taught to believe that one is suppose to cry as a result of the loss of a love one. Crying is a natural response. However do you know the difference between grieving and mourning?
Grief is a natural response to a loss. It's the emotional suffering you feel when something or someone you love is taken away. Many associate grieving with the death of a loved one which is often the cause of the most intense type of grief. However, any loss can cause grief including a divorce, or relationship breakup. What causes grief is not clear. What causes prolonged or complicated grief can also vary.
Mourning as oppose to grief refers to how someone may feel as it relates to the loss of a loveone. Mourning is the outward expression of the loss. Mourning usually involves culturally determined rituals that help the bereaved individual make sense of their loved one's life and give structure to what can feel like a very confusing time. Therefore while the internal pain of grief is a more universal phenomenon how people mourn also is influenced by the process as to how one grieve.
Join me and my callers as we provide information, resources and personal experiences as it relates to grief, loss and mourning the passing of a love one. Live Monday 1/8/18 at 12pm  Pacific.

  • Letting Go Of A Family Grudge
As we approach the holidays there are families that wI'll be without love ones for a number of reason. However when the reason is due to having a misunderstanding or perhaps as a result of a family grudge what are the other family members to do? Each family member will have their version of what occurred. However there are also times when one may be clueless. Most of the time before thinking about what to do, or how to respond it's useful to understand a few reason why people on each side of a conflict version may be different.
There are different types of grudges. Grudges with siblings, grudges with parents, or grudges with other family members. Most individuals work hard not to cut off ties with family members precisely because they are family. However in many cases the emotional pain may be hard to comphrend as anyone can become frustrated, resentful, disappointed, or even enraged with another on occasion. It may come out as shouting, sarcasm, or simply a put upon silence. Let's put an end to the grudge. Life is short. And we do not get to chose our family members.
If you have been holding a grudge with a family member join me and my special guest as we discuss how to let go of a family grudge. We will also be sharingwith the listeners the beauty of forgiveness. Live Monday 12/18/17 12pm Pacific.
