A Public Affair

Pregnancy and Parenting During a Pandemic

Listen Later

Social work professor Tova Walsh interviewed dozens of mothers who gave birth early in the pandemic. She herself had a baby in March 2020, just as Wisconsin’s stay-at-home orders went into effect. What she learned is that it’s been an unusual time for new parents, to say the least.
Today on the show, Dr. Walsh shares her combined academic and personal expertise with Wednesday host Ali Muldrow, who recently shared that she is expecting a July baby. They spend the hour talking about pregnancy and early parenting under stress and managing mental health and family life during the pandemic.
Tova Walsh is an assistant professor of social work at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she researches families, pregnancy, and early parenting. She recently appeared on the Slate podcast Mom and Dad Are Fighting.
