"When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.'

    ~Mister Rogers

During these difficult times, we must remember to support and lean on each other. While the stories from medics, nurses, and physicians in this episode are about their experiences during the COVID pandemic, the message of this episode remains significant today. That even though our varied backgrounds and geographical locations may make us appear different, it is our shared experiences and who we are that bring us together. It is our hope that this episode will reinforce the truth that we are EMS...we are one family...we are one nation. Please be safe and enjoy this episode titled "We are in this together."

Special thanks to Marcus Smith EMT-P, Nicole Cook RN, Jennifer Noce EMT-P, Scott Studebaker EMT-P, Dr. Christopher Root, Dr. Katie Tataris, Dr. Clayton Kazan, Dr. Bradley Kaufman, Dr. Adam Hill for their interviews.

    Happy EMS Week!!!

The PEC Podcast team is proud to celebrate EMS week with you! In honor of your commitment to your community and dedication to your craft, we celebrate your hard work with a very special story that exemplifies Emergency Medical Services.

The mini-Dunkirk event of Jamaica Queens Hospital patients was an amazing rescue effort composed of Ground EMS, Helicopter EMS, FEMA, and the health care providers of that hospital. When Jamaica Queens Hospital was overwhelmed with COVID patients, EMS answered the call.

Listen to the PEC podcast team interview:

Flight Paramedic Jennifer Noce (with her Great Dane Murph)

    Flight Nurse/Medic Lisa Kettunen

    Flight Nurse Rebecca Akers

    Episode 77 Small batch

"History doesn't repeat itself, but it often rhymes"

With our incessant meetings, nonstop planning, and fear of the unknown during this COVID pandemic, many feel that we are improvising on the spot. When in reality we are using the past to help us deal with the present. We look to the 1918 Influenza pandemic for guidance in public health measures and future predictions. One such epidemic that can provide us with further guidance is the Ebola Virus (EBV) Epidemic. We are fortunate to highlight a manuscript with the lead author, Dr. Andreia Alexander, in our small batch episode that reflects on paramedics' experiences in receiving PUI for the EBV arriving in the United States.

Dr. Andreia Alexander MD, PhD, MPH

So take a listen to this small batch and remember "History doesn't repeat itself, but it often rhymes." We hope you enjoy this small-batch episode and remember to look out for each other and please be safe. We are all in this together.

    Happy Leap Year!

Not only is it leap year, but it appears that Punxsutawney Phil didn't see his shadow! Early spring for all! :)

As you know, the PEC podcast aims to highlight EMS research brought to you by the Prehospital Emergency Care Journal. We also hope that our podcast educates all levels of EMS by bringing lively conversations about crucial prehospital topics. Our very own Joelle Donofrio-Odmann has been working with the Digital EMS California Academy of Learning or, DECAL (Including faculty and fellows from UCSD, Harbor-UCLA, USC, Arrowhead, Stanford and UCSF) to produce an educational EMS podcast that takes a deeper dive into the EMS core content and has special guest experts with Q&A sessions. In this episode, we have 2 fellows discussing "A Deeper dive into Termination of Resuscitation." So here is the episode by DECAL on Termination of Resuscitation. Editing of this DECAL podcast was done by fellow podcaster Mike Verkest.
