The Prepped and Polished Podcast is an educational and inspirational show that offers tutoring and test prep tips as well as interviews with celebrities and leaders in education. It is hosted by Alexis Avila, founder of Prepped and Polished LLC, a tutoring and test prep firm for K-college.
On today's show, Alexis is joined by Dr. Delvina Miremadi Founder & Chief Resilience Officer at Realize Your Resilience a company dedicated to helping individuals, groups, and organizations build upon their strengths and foster resilience so they can grow, succeed and thrive.
Delvina shares ways teens can develop the mental tools to overcome any life challenge that comes their way. She also teaches us how to follow the 50-40-10 rule. Listen in!
Fact: Delvina herself struggled with self-esteem issues and learned to conquer her struggles and now empowers others to do the same.
What parents can do to help their teens? Support them but don’t rescue them.
Advice for teens who put a mask on in school? Be kind to yourself, replace negative thoughts with positive ones, and don’t be afraid of failure.
Delvina’s words of wisdom for teens:
1. Believe in yourself and your abilities
2. Believe that your mind and you have control over your behavior and you can set that in a positive direction (leads to resilience)
3. Continue to learn and grow and make effort that will lead to increased resilience
4. Follow the 50-40-10 rule and work on the 40%. (50% of happiness is genetics, 10% is circumstance, 40% is determined by what you do everyday)
