Why did I find out I was pregnant when I was already almost five months along despite having no obvious pregnancy symptoms and negative tests?
In the very first episode of Pretty Messy, I’m sharing the full story of my pregnancy, birth and the beginning of motherhood.
From discovering my pregnancy incredibly late, to my waters breaking at 29 weeks, weeks of medical monitoring, a failed induction, an epidural that stopped working and eventually an emergency C-section.
But this episode is also about everything I wasn’t prepared for emotionally: the fear, the shock of becoming a mother so quickly, not feeling an instant bond with my baby, and realizing that becoming a mother and actually feeling like one don’t always happen at the same time.
In this episode, we talk about:
• Having almost no obvious pregnancy symptoms
• My waters breaking prematurely at 29 weeks
• My induction and why it took several days
• What happened when my epidural stopped working
• Being rushed into an emergency C-section
• Meeting my baby for the first time
• Why I didn’t feel the instant bond I expected
• Breastfeeding, exhaustion and my first days in the maternity ward
• The beginning of postpartum and the identity shift that came with becoming a mother
This is not the polished version of motherhood. It’s the version with fear, confusion, pain, guilt, love, gratitude and a lot of things I’m still figuring out.
That’s exactly why I created Pretty Messy.
