Queen’s Behind the Scenes

Pretty Privilege Is Real. But So Is Pretty Pressure.

Listen Later

Welcome back to Queens Behind the Scenes.

Two episodes ago, I talked about the pressure women feel to maintain beauty, youth, and “having it together.” But after that conversation, I kept thinking about another layer we don’t talk about honestly enough… pretty privilege.

Because yes, I do believe attractive people are often treated differently. I think most of us know that on some level. But what I don’t think gets enough attention is the pressure attached to it.

  • The maintenance.
  • The assumptions.
  • The performance.
  • The exhaustion.
  • In this episode, I’m talking about the emotional and social side of beauty culture, especially for women navigating visibility, leadership, social media, aging, and identity in real time.

I also dive into how this conversation hits differently for Black women and why beauty is often tied to professionalism, perception, and even protection in ways people don’t always acknowledge.

This is not a bitter conversation.

And it’s definitely not an anti-beauty conversation.

I enjoy beauty. I enjoy taking care of myself. But I also think women deserve space to question what we’re participating in and why.

We’re getting into all of it this week.
