  • The Ultimate 90’s House Music Classics [1992 – 1993] vol. 3
Party Favorz is back with the third and final volume of the Ultimate 90's House Music Classics from 1992 through 1993. This set stays true to form featuring many of the biggest Classic House tracks of the two years plus a whole bunch of forgotten gems buried in between the grooves.

I've been up since midnight making changes to the final product so there won't be any surprise updates several days later. I've also compiled all the holiday dance favorites plus a slew of new ones for this year's X-mas Dance entry. All the tracks for the upcoming Holiday Edition 2020 have been solidified and I decided to throw in a bonus Disco House set, which has all been compiled, and maybe, just maybe a Peak Hour sandwiched between the forthcoming Jingle Electric 2020, which I have yet to compile tracks for.

At least I'm trying to stay ahead of the curve because compiling (in most instances) can take days or longer. Of course that still leaves the annual Top Dance Club Songs of the Year, which is a time-consuming project all by itself, and Blow Your Own Horn 2021, which takes us out of 2020 with a roof-raising bang.

Needless to say, I'm exhausted and have a lot on my plate through the end of the year. I'm not going to go in-depth about this set and just let it speak for itself. Far be it for me to be at a loss for words LOL.

I see some of you have already been jumping on the Christmas bandwagon by hitting up previous sets, which is great. I'll be back on Friday with this year's entry to jump-start your holiday cheer. Until then...ENJOY!

  • The Ultimate 90’s House Music Classics [1992 – 1993] vol. 2
Party Favorz is serving up a heaping pile of 90's House Music classics with volume two of the years 1992 through 1993. There's a boatload of dancefloor sizzlers and number ones in this set that I'd be hard-pressed to pick any favorites.

This set kicks off with the glorious "Love You All My Lifetime" by the goddess and previous Diva Hall of Fame inductee Chaka Khan quickly followed by another inductee Martha Wash ("Give It To Me") who was fresh off her work with Black Box and C + C Music Factory that parlayed those massive successes into a record deal.

Lil' Louis who already had a string of successes starting with "French Kiss" in 1989 (featured on volume three of 1988 - 1992) generated two chart toppers with "Club Lonely" and "Saved My Life" (featuring Joi Cardwell) from his brilliant Sony Music sophomore effort "Journey With The Lonely."

We also get introduced to new artists like Saint Etienne ("Nothing Can Stop Us"), Opus III ("It's A Fine Day"), Sunscreem ("Love U More"), and Blue Pear ("[Can You] Feel the Passion") all of who found massive success on the dance floor and the charts.

    [youtube v="VSesIUk-5Yw"]

Perhaps the biggest smash in this volume is "It's Gonna Be A Lovely Day" by The S.O.U.L. S.Y.S.T.E.M. a product of C + C Music Factory featuring the vocals of Michelle Visage. The song was originally featured on the mega-selling "Bodyguard" soundtrack and went on to be a certifiable worldwide smash on the dance charts.

After refreshing my memories on many of these tracks — it dawned on me that there was a period when many of the biggest hits never had a break in the middle nor the end to mix out of. This doesn't make it impossible to mix tracks (unless there's a DJ-friendly edit by Ultimix or Hot Tracks) as long as there are enough songs that have them. None of the songs featured in these sets have a middle break to transition out of as if it fell out of favor with DJs at the time. It was used extensively in the 80s and made a comeback later in this decade before falling out of favor again in the mid-millennium with the spotifycation of quick radio edits (don't get me started).

Overall, I'm stoked about how well these sets are turning out. The mixing is flawless, the music is EPIC and the remastering of these timeless treasures is a time-consuming effort but well worth it.

We've got one more set to go for this two-year period and will pick back up with 1994 - 1995 in January because I've got to get back on track with fresh releases in Dance Club and Circuit & Anthems before closing out the year with our annual Top Dance Club Songs of the Year and Blow Your Own Horn series.

At the moment, I realize that life can feel pretty bleak for many of you but I assure you, there's light at the end of this tunnel. Just know that Party Favorz is here to help you get through it all. It's my promise to keep myself safe so that I can be that one constant in your life that hasn't changed. Until the next time...ENJOY!

I want to give a MASSIVE shout-out to our longtime friend Anthony S. for his generous donation.

  • The Ultimate 90’s House Music Classics [1992 – 1993] vol. 1
Batten down the hatches because Party Favorz is back in business and about to release a tsunami of 90's House Classics that cover the years 1992 through 1993 and boy are these massive! Much TLC has been provided to these tracks to ensure not only the highest quality but the deepest and most rich bass making these long-lost gems shine like never before.

What you get in this first of three sets: All the hits plus some Eurodance crossovers that rely heavily on the house sound to flesh out their rhythms and some of the deepest buried classics you either never heard of or have been buried in the vault that's burrowed into the deepest recesses of your mind.
The beginning of the superstar DJ
During this transitional phase of House Music of the early nineties — DJs like Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, Junior Vasquez, Masters At Work, Steve "Silk" Hurley, Tony Humphries, and Shep Pettibone continued to have massive success and brand name recognition. But, others like MK (Marc Kinchen) StoneBridge, Cole & Clivilles,  Eric Kupper, Perfecto (Paul Oakenfold), Danny Tenaglia, and Joey Negro all began having their own massive success at production.

In fact, most of these guys are still around today and churning out some of the biggest floor-scorchers that you may not even be aware of. They've outlasted the majority of artists they produced during this rich and productive decade of music history. Look no further than MK's #1 club hit "Always" with Alana, which got reworked in 2014. There are many other examples of his work that have outlasted the originals and continue to get updated to this day. One of those songs is coming up in this series momentarily.

    [youtube v="UqzizM3cLQE"]
Sub-genres of House Music and a splintering scene
The classic House Music sound ruled the clubs and dance charts during this period but as mentioned in an earlier post began to spin off into other sub-genres, which become more apparent as this series' decade progresses. Some sub-genres that had such a massive impact like Trance (which is due for its own complete overhaul in 2021) and Eurodance warranted their own categories as did Circuit Tribal House at the latter part of the decade but that's for another post.

Probably one of the staunchest genres from which House Music evolved is Disco. Truth be told, Disco never died and is frequently injected into 90's House Classics and is currently enjoying a resurgence in popular music today. You'd be hard-pressed not to find its influence no matter how subtle or overt — its presence is always felt.

    For now,

  • CELEBRATE 2021!!! | The Post Election Dance Celebration
Party Favorz has been up all night working out a party mix to celebrate the end of fascism. The lies, the graft, the shredding of the Constitution, the misogyny, the xenophobia, the racism, the homophobia, the ableism, the lack of intellectual curiosity, and the denial of science could no longer sustain themselves before the American people had the last word.

We still have more work to do in my home state of Georgia where we have two Senators that are in a run-off on January 5th. We must get Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock elected to give Joe Biden a running start to enact the legislation we voted him in for. With a Supreme Court conservative majority — they're teeing up the lawsuits that will affect everything from healthcare to LGBTQ rights.

For those that don't understand our fucked-up electoral system — Republicans still have a path to override the will of the people. I'm not even going to entertain it because that would guarantee an outright civil war.

For now, I'm here for the win and just want to celebrate the record number of people who came out to vote. Celebrate 2021 consists of six decades of party tracks remixed for today's dancefloor. There's something for everyone here. My only regret was having to leave so many great songs on the cutting room floor before this got out of hand. This set is being offered for free because I want everyone to enjoy the spoils of victory. ENJOY!

This was done in one take and I haven't had the time to preview it. If there are any errors — let me know and I'll fix them.

  • HW20 | The Hottest Dance Club Treats
Party Favorz is back with the annual HW20 dance club edition featuring all treats and no tricks.

This set is jam-packed with EDM, House Music, Disco House, Bootlegs, and Mashups with just enough spooky fun elements to fulfill its title.
    The Spofitication of dance music
I have to say that it's becoming more difficult to compile these commercial dance sets since the shutdown of venues across the nation. Typically I rely on a variety of factors to create these sets. First, I look at Billboard's Dance Club charts to see what other DJs across the country are laying down, I look at Beatport and Traxsource charts to see where underground and disco tracks are crossing over, I peruse the Billboard Top 100 for those commercial hits that weren't necessarily created for the dancefloor but some enterprising up and coming DJ has generated a masterful bootleg of, I look at YouTube music trends and of course, I look at the DJ services internal charts to see what are the hottest tracks everyone is jumping on before they go wide scale.

Two other elements are my internal gut feeling about a song, which comprises about a 1/3 of all tracks included in a set, and the Billboard Electronic Dance Music chart, which I have a love/hate relationship with. Much like the Billboard Top 100, this chart's rankings are heavily weighted towards streaming service plays form Spotify and Apple Music. The rest is based on sales and radio play both of which carry less weight. This has resulted in two things:

    1) Many artists just release single after single generating buzz, play, and revenue while forgoing the traditional album release. In fact, boutique labels have developed a whole business model around this and many of these stellar tracks never make it into the DJ pool or Beatport.

    2) Bigger artists still put out albums because there's still money in sales both physical and non-physical. At the same time, they game the system by dropping everything at once flooding these charts with mediocre songs and a couple of stellar ones that may or may not even reach the top of those charts but still generates significant amounts of revenue for them. We've seen it with Drake and Chainsmokers. In particular, Chainsmokers are still a big draw but by dumping everything all at once, they end up with 12 songs on the Electronic Dance Music chart even though none are massive hits. It dilutes the chart and drowns stellar songs by new artists that struggle to break through.

The other end of this is that the songs on this chart rarely get remixes unless someone creates a bootleg. In fact, many aren't really dance songs at all so the entire chart is a bit of a mystery to me. After all, everything today is quantifiably Electronic Dance Music. The two biggest breakthroughs of 2020 on the chart that had crossover success are Imanbek's remix of Saint Jhn's "Roses" and Surfa Mesa's "ily (i love you baby)" — the latter generating stellar Future House remixes, which helped propel the song further. But, these are the exception and not the rule.

As such, most of these songs (and even the danceable ones) are more like radio edits and never get remixes. They're geared toward the Spotification of dance music for radio playback.
Dance club music is on lockdown
Because labels are commissioning fewer and fewer remixes as a result of the pandemic and the reason the Dance Club chart is shut down (because it relies on DJ feedback based on live plays) it makes sense for them to fo...

  • RAGE | Peak Hour Stress Relief
With only 9 days left until the elections — Party Favorz is offering up RAGE the next episode in Peak Hour mayhem! I find that the harder the better when I need to let it out without going off on everyone else.

Initially, this set was to be posted yesterday but due to some issues with the new PWA pounding our servers that caused some massive memory issues — the stellar original post couldn't be saved. Since I'm in no mood to recreate the original — may I suggest you just download, hit play, and let the music do the rest?

Don't be fooled by the first track, which is more House Music than anything (even though it's listed as Tech House) because right after, everything heats up and stays that way until you get to the end with a new rework of the 90's Robert Miles Trance Classic "Children" to close it out.

I've already compiled a new Dance Club for release next week and will then start work on the next two years (1992 - 1993) of The Ultimate 90's House Music Classics series for November release.

I hope everyone has a great weekend...until the next time...ENJOY!

  • Let’s Go Disco Dancin’ | Cosmopolitan Dance Music
Lately, Party Favorz has been multi-tasking and is about to wrap up a month(s) long process of cleaning up the backend of the website and streamlining everything to keep the Google gods happy. I am currently working on a standalone app for the website that you can install on your desktop or mobile device for quick and easy access while receiving alerts about new episodes. Cool, huh?

In the interim, I'm bringing y'all the latest and greatest from the disco gods to your happy ears. Let's Go Dancin' retains all the funky house elements of previous efforts but it's much more polished, a little laidback, and reminds me of music you'd hear in an upscale bar while mingling and sipping on martinis.

There's a plethora of classic disco samples and some reworks along with "Found Love" by Double Dee and Dany. If you remember or haven't gotten to it yet — that was a #1 Billboard Dance Club song from 1990 and recently featured on The Ultimate 90’s House Music Classics [1988 – 1991] Vol. 2. Over the years, it's been updated several times and David Penn spins his 2020 magic while staying true to the original.

    [youtube v="KI4FBXm4OHU"]

Originally, I thought I wasn't going to have enough tracks to fill this out but boy was I wrong. It clocks in at 3 hours of pure disco bliss. After having previewed it multiple times — I can assure you discophiles will not be disappointed.

The plan is to drop the next Peak Hour set next week followed by (fingers crossed) HW20, which is our annual Dance Club Halloween set. Sorry, no new Circuit Tribal House sets until the Holiday Edition because there's just not enough at the moment and I'm not going to release a set featuring all DJ Dario and DJ Furi Drums who have both become their own automated remix machines.

Cool weather keeps making an appearance and leaves just as quickly so it feels like fall and winter are going to be a hit or miss around the southeast. As long as temps remain reasonable and there's plenty of sunshine — I'm golden. I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend. Until the next time...ENJOY!

Yesterday's post on voting was NOT the urgent notice I had promised you folks. That was more of a stream of conscious choice I made at the last moment urging y'all to vote. I'll be posting upcoming changes to the subscription plans tomorrow so be sure to keep an eye out for that because it WILL most certainly effect many of you. Please stay tuned...

We have reached the end of the Ultimate 90's House Music Classics from 1988 to 1991 and boy, is this one a whopper!

From Marshall Jefferson's epic "Move Your Body," which was a hit in 2020 and Lisa Stansfield's "People Hold On," which is as relevant today as when it was released in 1988 and was turned into a massive #1 club hit 7 years later with the Dirty Scoundrels remix to the epic club classics like Lil' Louis' "French Kiss," whose pulsating synths still hold up today, Ralphi Rosario's 80's underground house smash "You Used To Hold Me," which features the epic monologue takedown by the fabulous Xavier Gold, Crystal Waters "Gypsy Woman," a song that was part of my New York awakening, Shawn Christopher's "Another Sleepless Night," Frankie Knuckles' "The Whistle Song" to crossover one-offs like Betty Boo's "Doin the Do," and Right Said Fred's "I'm Too Sexy" — this set represents the scene in all of its glory.

The number of classics whether crossover or not included in these first three sets is mindboggling because there are so many that have been tapped, flipped, and reserved in today's musical landscape, which is a testimony to the power of the originals.

If you can't tell by now — I light up when writing about classic dance cuts even the Trash Disco series where most songs were before I was even old enough to get into a club until 15 years later. I just live for the history of it all.

You can expect subsequent releases to be staggered out in sets of two years over the next several months. Slowly releasing them allows folks to appreciate and savor what these sets offer by giving everyone a chance to properly digest them.
    IN OTHER NEWS
I finally got a response from Podbean about the upcoming changes that they're pressing forward with even though it's the dumbest business decision ever put forward and is a quick money grab to boost their bottom line (possibly to make them look attractive to potential buyers) I can't say. Look for an urgent message posted across all of our platforms tomorrow on how to secure your current plan.

In the meantime, I'm wrapping up the next Disco House set for (hopefully Saturday) but no later than Sunday release. Just know that almost everything is on track even though there have been some major shifts in the way labels, DJs, and artists are releasing new material. Somehow, I manage to make everything work but put in that extra effort for your enjoyment.

    Until the next time...ENJOY!

  • The Ultimate 90’s House Music Classics [1988 – 1991] Vol. 2
Part 2 of the Ultimate 90s House Music Classics picks up where the first one left off. Unsurprisingly, there are a ton of classic cuts most folks are familiar with like D-Mob and Cathy Dennis' "C'mon and Get My Love," C + C Music Factory's "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)," Technotronic's "Pump Up the Jam" and "Get Up," Jomanda's "Gotta Love For You," and other massive tracks from Crystal Waters, Inner City, Lisette Melendez, Black Box and 2 in a Room.

However, these long-forgotten 80s gems that have been sampled numerous times over the years make my eyes water. Maurice's "This Is Acid," Royal House's "Get Funky," Double Dee's "Found Love," Steve "Silk" Hurley's "Jack Your Body" are remembered for their infectious hooks and helped define a generation of House Music that was about to explode in the coming years.

I came across the long-forgotten track of which I had the vinyl version "Jack To the Sound" by Hithouse, which took me way back. The song follows the path of M/A/R/R/S "Pump Up the Volume" from several years back with loops and familiar samples but was also a blend of Acid House that soon bled into the burgeoning Techno scene several years later. It's a memorable track and is part of the definitive 80s sound that broke out during the latter part of the decade. You'll know it as soon as it hits your ears.

I've got one more from this four-year span of the Ultimate 90s House Classics from 1988 - 1991 and it's a whopper! That'll likely drop on Wednesday. After that, I plan on releasing these at two-year intervals once a month until we hit the end of the decade.

I hope everyone has a fantastic week. I'll be back on in a couple of days. Until then...ENJOY!
