As conference play and the regular season come to an end, Nate Oats and his Alabama team will travel to Auburn to play Bruce Pearl’s Auburn Tigers for the second time this season.
Alabama has lost 4 of their last 6 and Nate Oats doesn’t seem to be concerned about his team’s ability, but more so his team’s effort. Grant Nelson has hit ONE 3-point shot in his last 7 games, hasn’t hit one since Alabama played Texas in early February. Chris Youngblood has had a few good games but only seems to put up big offensive numbers when playing Mississippi State. Mark Sears and Labaron Philon have played consistently over this rough stretch, but can the Tide pull it together in Neville?
Both Johni Broome and Mark Sears will go down as two of the all-time Auburn and Alabama Basketball greats. Both have an insanely long list of accolades and Sears led Alabama to the first Final Four in program history just last season.
Auburn won the first No.1 vs No. 2 matchup in SEC Basketball History that occurred between Auburn and Alabama in Coleman Coliseum earlier this season. With College GameDay in town and all eyes on the state of Alabama, Johni Broome & co got the job done in Tuscaloosa. Denver Jones played a big role Auburn walking away with that win, holding Alabama’s guards (Mark Sears, Aden Holloway, Chris Youngblood) to 4-18 from the 3-point line. Denver Jones got injured during Auburn’s game at Kentucky and did not play vs Texas A&M. Will Jones be back out on the court on Saturday? Will Auburn protect their home court and finish the regular season with 2 wins over their in-state rival?
The SEC Basketball Tournament is less than a week away and the bracket is almost set. Since they won the SEC Regular Season Championship, Auburn will be the 1-Seed in Nashville. Alabama is currently the 3-Seed but could fall to a 4-seed if they lose on Saturday and Tennessee beats South Carolina.
