Hello there. The footage was recorded at a Pride-themed marathon that was happening downtown. I was taking a walk downtown, as I normally do, witnessed the race, and got out my phone to record. Later on, I sped it up, looped it, and downloaded seven different copies of the footage, each with a different color filter. Then through both 123Apps and Adode Express, I overlaid them in a few rainbow patterns, directly influenced by the Pride flag and the Baudot code-inspired color blocks on the cover of Coldplay's 2005 album X&Y. I I was originally gonna do some additional frame layers by recreating the Trans flag but I was unusually busy through this month (and I wanted to put this out before Pride Month was over) that I left it as is.
For the soundtrack, I wanted to do something that was a cross between Cocteau Twins and Harmonia. In the case of the latter, I used an excerpt of their 1974 track "Dino" when I uploaded a promotional short. Anyways, I sampled a snippet of the Librivox audiobook of Virginia Woolf's seminal queer text Orlando, about an immortal nobleman who magically changes sex. I added both an echo and delay effect to make the recorded passage sound like it's being spouted on top of a mountain. I also reused a drum loop from the Music for A 90s Film track "Roadrage" and added a funky phaser effect. Finally, I added layers of effects to the guitar samples and synthesizer drone to create an ethereal swirling soundscape. More to come soon.
