Multiple lawsuits challenge President Trump's executive order ending birthright citizenship for children of undocumented or temporarily residing parents. The lawsuits, filed by Democratic-led states, cities, and the ACLU, argue the order violates the 14th Amendment and existing federal law. The White House defends the order, asserting that the 14th Amendment's "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" clause excludes children of undocumented immigrants from birthright citizenship. This legal battle could become a major Supreme Court case during Trump's second term, with opponents anticipating a lengthy and complex court process. The order itself aims to prevent federal agencies from issuing citizenship documents to affected children born after a specific date.
