This week I get back into it with a solo podcast about a topic I have been talking with clients about a lot lately and I have been evolving my own practices with and this pertains mostly to personal training and what always is sold in it is weigth loss. Now I get it not everyone speaks gym rat however, the messages that are out there are so extreme its no wonder clients heads feel like they're gonna explode and their anxious. When the scale is used as a major metric and nothing else it doesn't create a proper or lasting change it also sets very unrealistic at times expectations towards goals and when focusing just on the scale it creates a lot of stress and focus on weight and image the one bad thing a bout the scale is it goes up and down a lot and is a good trend metric but not to see if change is happening you need to link it with a few different metrics to capture exactly what is happening.
This episode is very in depth I sit down with Cruz a trainer for 5 years plus and a elite level natural bodybuilder who has competed at the national level. We talk about how training as a natty is different but you many people that are natural are capable of much more then they will put themselves through. We end up diving down the motivation habit hole a bit in terms of what makes people tick when trying to get in shape.
Cruz has pivoted successfully his in person pt to online pt and has a lot of very good insight into how to get started on it and make the choice to just start, in his words the market isn't that saturated there is a couple billion ppl in the world and with online you can reach clients from allover so you have a endless potential of people you can help!
Cruz and many other fitness pros are singling a shift in the industry and the outlook and I personally believe it is much needed. Focusing on health and sustainable practices to achieve reasonable results as efficiently and affectively as they possibly can.
If your looking to get started on your fitness journey or pivot your business give this a listen!
Josh has been the head strength and conditioning coach at the University of Guelph for 7 years and has spent a few years at the D1 level in the NCCA with two different basketball programs and has worked with Canada basketball and many other teams over his career. I sit down with Josh to break down some very common misconceptions about the industry and get the views of a veteran coach.
Josh has a lot of great insights into many things in including autmony of clients and atlhetes and how the coaching process is a process and not a set of rules exactly laid out as such. As well as some great takes on specificity in a strength and conditioning program and what roll strength should play in it.
Josh also has some very good advice for those industry when it comes to longevity and your own and managing life when your a strength coach or fitness professional. Be sure to have a listen to this podcast a lot of valuable information in here
took some time this week to do a solo podcast, to give listeners some more background on myself and how I got into the industry I have been around gyms for a long time and been training clients in some shape or from for 10 years now. 5 of those are full-time coaching without school or other things getting in the way. I feel that I'm in a place as a coach that I'm moving up the chain and have a solid level of knowledge there is still room to grow and refine always, but I'm at a place now in the food chain that I can speak on things with experience and be able to hopefully guide future coaches forward and elevate the standard of the industry greatly in the private side of things. Ie the non traditional strength coach work place.
I have been fortunate to spend a lot of time around some really great coaches and have been able to lean from each of them but also spin off to my own approach I'm not a mimi or copy of any one coach but a mix of all of them. This is where I think new coaches flatter they try to emulate other coaches to much lean from them and dive in but make it your own training isn't black and white it is a art and a science.

Kobi has a very extensive background in many different fields and has a degree in kinesiology and health promotion from Sheridan and has started many small businesses as well as experience working in the health field as well as being competitive powerlifter and spending some time being a strength and conditioning coach. I sat down with Kobi to get a sense of what sort of things fitness pros could do to help manage they're bottom line through the pandemic and juggle the ups and downs that the industry puts on those who choose fitness as a career path. The advice given is very clear and simple. As nothing is ever really as complex as it seems.
Jason is a long time trainer and current owner of a independent gym Tempo Performance and Fitness in the GTA. Jason has worked in fitness in may different capicitees as a trainer and as a gym owner. He was also a DJ and promoter that was very well known in the local ninth life. We talk about how all these experiences guiding him towards the ultimate dream he had of opening a gym. As well as how they are managing to keep a gym going during all the very difficult times the fitness industry in the GTA particularly has faced being in a forced to close state for almost 9 months since covid has been affecting our lives in march of 2019.
As Jason put it fitness is for everybody no matter what your goal is you can be a part of the fitness community once you find a vehicle that is comfortable to you. The hardest part for most people is just making the first steps and going to a great environment is a great way to achieve that level of success.
