Psalm 2 describes the rebellion of nations against God and His Messiah, but emphasizes Christ's inevitable reign. Despite defiance, God derides their efforts, having already appointed Christ as King on Zion. This points to the Incarnation and Christ's ongoing authority over heaven and earth. Rulers are warned to submit to Christ or face judgment. Christ fulfills the Davidic Covenant and reigns eternally over all nations.
Psalm 89:19-37 affirms God's covenant with David, fulfilled in Christ, the anointed one. The practice of anointing, later seen in baptism, symbolizes union with Christ. Believers share in His reign and victory.
Psalm 110 presents Christ as both King and Priest, emphasizing His current and future reign. Now, He rules amidst His enemies, awaiting their final defeat of death. His kingship fulfills Messianic promises of God, extending beyond forgiveness to His complete kingdom. The Church joins in this spiritual warfare. Christ's eternal priesthood links the Abrahamic and Davidic covenants, pointing to His final victory and the new creation.
