(Chad Brekke) If you want to get a heated discussion going, bring up politics and issues like paying taxes. Some religious adversaries of Jesus thought they could trap him with a question so loaded, people would turn against him no matter how he answered. Rather than causing anger and violence, the answer Jesus gives causes people to drop their weapons and walk away amazed.

(Natalia Terfa) When we hear someone, usually a child, say the words - “But it’s not fair!” - What is our typical response? “Life isn’t fair!” What a harsh and hard lesson to learn at any age. No matter how hard we try or earn or think we deserve something - sometimes life just doesn’t go the way we want it to. Today’s Gospel is this same lesson - told in parable form - for an audience that was struggling with this same concept.
