Race & Mental Health in Prison
Dr. Reymon Ethnasios and William Noguera discuss race relations in prison. William discusses how primal survival instincts operate in prison, including the formation of large prison gangs, are driven by the herd mentality. In this episode, William explains that racism and race bias perpetuates victimization and discourages individuality. Mental health is also a pressing issue in prisons and although services are available, not many inmates access them. Ultimately, both the prison system and society at large could benefit from a prison system that rehabilitates bc these prisoners will one day return to society.
