Roger Dale Martin, bass player of the iconic Christian thrash band Vengeance Rising, let’s us in on a secret. Vengeance Rising, in the late 80s paved a new path not only in the Christian music scene, but in the heavy music scene as a whole. The vocals had Christians retorting, “You're not allowed to have singing that sounds like demons in hell.” We talk about the early Christian heavy music scene, the departure of front man Roger Martinez, the impossibility for indie bands back in the day to track their following, and much, much more. Back in 1991, Joey and Jared Svendsen’s lives would change forever at Cornerstone Festival. As 14 and 16 year olds, we waited with the crowds for this band Scaterd Few to take the stage. At the first chord, it was love at first sight. Attitude, punk, a bit of a twisted vibe, and this guy was singing about God? 27 years later, the album is just as musically relevant, standing the test of time, and maintaining a spot in both of our top tens of all time.
